>pick wild mushrooms
>oops that wasn't what we thought it was
>whole family needs liver transplants, half die anyway
you do you

I prefer to get my mushrooms from the grocery store, and definitely don't get any that were imported from China because they forage those and you don't really know what you're getting.

Yes, there is a gamble.
If you do it right, you can get rare delicacies virtually for free.
If don't, then... well. It is somehow similar as for japanese with that Fugu fish.

There is huge country with thousands of them.
Thing is, that at moment there is shit weather, and they will be mostly in hiding. Late May might be good time for visit.

depending on variety.
Most common thing is to make sauce, and eat them with potatoes.

where's the gamble? just pick up boletus if you don't know much about foraging. Worst case scenario you'll pick up the bitter one and just shit yourself. I've only seen bitter boletus maybe once or twice. They're not that common

Looks good. Mushroom does taste fantastic
>>

Every year here some people kick the bucked because they picked wrong shrooms. Considered as part of life. Even those, who had a decades old experience, may do some mistake.
>>
>>527830353
Did you guys know that mushrooms are not considered plants but a class of their own, more closely related even with animals than with plants?
>>
>>527836029
It is similarly as with apples or grapes. Can be big variety of taste between them. Delicious yes. But also, different flavors of delicious.

Chanterelle and Boletes are almost impossible to fuck up. The other mushrooms are for people with a death wish.
I don't even like mushrooms really I just like walking in the forest picking them.

>I am pretty sure you can eat amanita muscaria if you pickle it or cook or some shit.

Well, yes. You can. And there is good chance to get high from it. Have eaten myself some of it in small doses, but did not got high, and also no adverse symptoms. Taste was even ok-ish, for raw fungus.

In Russia, upon like 17th century, that was shroom to get "high". Later vodka became more widespread and out compete that tradition.

More northen tribes, which grew reinder, they gave amanita muscaria to reindeer, and later drank their urine. Reindeer livers filtered out toxic chemicals, while psychoactive ones were excreted with urine. Now you can see from where partially comes that myth about Santa Claus, sleds and reindeers.

Because wild amanita muscaria can have various levels of psychoactive compounds, and toxins, it makes dosage quite difficult. Very, very risky thing.

Looks like chanterelles. Not sure that they grow in USA. Those which are in Europe, are not only edible, but considered as kinda more delicious than average shrooms.

Bait.

They're mediocre at best. I am going to try making a chutney with them because the basic cream sauce is uninspiring.

No, no. They are nice. Also easy and fast to cook. No need to boil several times, or other time consuming measures. Gives nice, mild flavor. Excellent in sauces in late summer or early autumn, with freshly harvested potatoes (boiled) and fresh dill. That is one of nice things about them. That during season, it colludes with harvest season of several other things, that you get end product which is like 4x more delicious.

Wild mushroom sauce also often has dirt and sand in it. I hate crunching sand in my mouth.
>>
>>527840158
finally, a real meal
>>
>>527841131
Just wash them. And use soft brush to remove dirt.
