Big Smoke, the end-game villain, was practically the same as CJ except he wasn't a soldier tool for the feds because he was fat but had the brains to sabotage their rivals (the russians, the latin gangs, the chinese) along with knowing how to manipulate the gang to do his bidding, his maneuvers did include betraying which is the line CJ did not cross explicitly although that is debatable because i don't recall well.

Vice City is a maniac's very quick rags-to-riches story, it "celebrates" being a deranged killer which is usually the stopping line for his otherwise lazy or moralistic rivals, then gets mad he gets betrayed in the end. Funny thing is that the villain is actually the wronged party in this storyline, he used the protagonist as a fall man but he DID reward his loyalty in the end, that's why he fucking gives him full control of the negotiations in a massive market and implicitly allowing him to control the area and collect his part if he wanted to.

3 is the story of a terminator hitman that bids his time as a background character to the city's kingpins for the sake of reaching a powerful person that betrayed him at the beginning of the game.

IV is a story of a PTSD kebab remover turned hitman not knowing what to do with melancholy and behaving wrong, with the ending being his friends, also former kebab removers, telling him to shut the fuck up, stop crying and reminding him he's alive and that he's capable of moving on, particularly at that point where he has enough money and proven friends to live peacefully.

V is a big fat mess.

I am reserved, even if it was filled with that it will be reddit, IV and 3 had those moments that felt in place and "justified" in-story, it made sense, while in V they felt like pointless and vulgar displays of power for no reason. Like Trevor eating two characters, bashing a previous protagonist and fucking a character to establish a narrative tone that the writers couldn't do with talent, Michael being a cuck (counts as sadistic) and so on.
