Frankly, the determining factor is a matter is whether NATO with minimal to no American assistance can establish air superiority. If the alliance cannot, then they are in for a very hard time. The ground offensive will be analogous to the Russian opening moves toward Kiev but worse. The basis for this is when Ukrainians go train with NATO states, they are shocked and disappointed on how inadequate and outdated the lessons are. Ukraine and Russia have internalized that armored spearheads seldom work, you cannot always drive around a minefield, dispersal of forces into autonomous units of no more than three people is the way to go and you CANNOT effectively fight without drones. Conducting operations without drone swarms today is akin to carrying weapons without ammo. NATO needs Ukrainian men embedded in their units with sufficient command authority and resources. Not idiot boomers larping Cold War strategy and tactics. Can NATO cope with tens of thousands dead? Americans cannot, that is why we are intelligently not getting involved.
