American settlers had secured the East Coast AND the Mississippi River (the main reason for independence). Florida, which everyone from the English to the French had neglected, finally joined the union. Now what?

Boom, American settlers were then moving west (in both the north and south) with the land being controlled by their government. What, then, was the Civil War? Well, knowing that the land from Texas to California contained noncitizens then you might want to say it was caused by a lack of citizenship definition... HOWEVER, if you recall, both Florida and Texas were partially settled at time creating a "we're surrounded" situation for that area. Civil War, then, was about making sure the east coast and the southeast coast were truly settled
