We've been seeing XYZ söyentist claim to cure XYZ disease for decades now and nothing ever happens.Science isn't just some sort of charitable organization that works for the good of humanity, much to the dismay of atheists who have turned it into their religion.Studies are funded by people with a premeditated agenda looking to find someone to prove it for them.

Academics fudge their results all the time because they are highly incentivized to publish as much slop research with positive results as they can, as quickly as possible. Pharma is under intense regulatory and legal scrutiny, so they don't tolerate fudged results and they don't tolerate slop research. For example: GlaxoSmithKline spent 700 million dollars on buying resveratrol from an academic fraudster, then carefully tried to have their own guys replicate the basic science and failed, so they had to write off the whole thing. Meanwhile the resveratrol guy still has a successful career at Harvard. There is basically NO oversight in academia (peer review is an honour system, it's a joke) and no consequences for fraud.
