Why do young westerners STILL wnat to move to 'the big city,' despite the expense and all of the downsides? Contrary to predictions, many rural/small-town areas in the US are still losing population. The internet and the 'work from home' trend have failed to stop the decline. In the western Great Plains, for example, many areas reached their peak populations way back in the 1920's, prior to the Dust Bowl era, and have STILL not recovered. Why?
