The Israeli government is probably modelled after the British except with a president instead if a monarch who is mostly ceremonial in role while real executive power lies with the prime-minister who is usually leader of the biggest party in the ruling coalition. (in this case Netanyahu)

The president, in this case Herzog, is chosen by the Israeli parliament by majority vote. One of the few powers the president has is presidential pardons. Netanyahu and his buddies are being prosecuted for some corruption, fraud & bribery charges.

Trump wants Herzog, who is supposed to be politically neutral, to pardon his good friend (lord and master) Netanyahu. The fact that Trump also loves bribes and fraud might also factor in his support for Netanyahu.

Our courts are boasting about their coup since the 90s. Openly, they brag (and teach it in law school) about how they are the final arbitrator in all things, thats its their job to overrule the people, the votes, the Knesset.... Open coup and these allegations are an obvious part of it
