The collective chant and dance around the campfire. Communal rites. Figurines of fertility. Ancestral myths of heroism. Tribal shrines. War and hunting rituals with elaborate ritual masks, magic items. Carved totems. Protective amulets. Primitive plays. Sacred symbols. It is ROUGHLY in this psych. framework that much of past (what we'd now call) 'traditional, conservative, right-wing' art is consistently understandable. To affirm the existing order, whether Church, aristocracy, the nation state. 'Modern, subversive, left-wing' revolution in art was in defiance of the existing order. Seen in miniature e.g. at the Salon des Refusés of 1863 in rebellion against academic painting in France. And this movement gradually conquered the world of art like it conquered much of the broader culture. This is a major reason why clear majority of artists today are leftists.Much of the degeneracy in left-wing art is attributable to the rebellion becoming more and more artificial and pretentious with the left establishing itself as the new cultural hegemony. In rebellion against whom and what? It struggles to be real, to have living energy. In addition to not identifying with its position at the cultural summit the left has not produced high quality art affirmative of its hegemony because its gods are shallow, negative, weak.The other way round for how many on the right still see 'right-wing' art. Longing for a return to art affirmative of the old Gods. But too many have heard the 'melancholy, long, withdrawing roar'. At best we would be warming ourselves at embers of dying sacral fires It would be stale. No vigour of a new Spring. No rebirth. The dead do not return. Maybe say a prayer for a radical, subversive right-wing art movement against left-wing citadels of art and culture?
