Part of a email to local politicians regarding boyracers in rural New Zealand....

.....What occurred following this beggars belief.

For the entire day, several members of the public – evidently street racing enthusiasts, “boy racers,” and their associates – congregated around this burnt-out car, taking photos and videos of people coming and going, and harassing locals.


Some members of this group went onto my mother’s neighbour’s property, and were told to leave. Three members of this group – all young men – also entered my mother’s property and confronted her. Evidently, they accused her of burning their vehicle (a ridiculous allegation to lay against an elderly woman, particularly when the car in question was located next to her property, in close proximity to the boundary fence and with stock nearby that would obviously have been at risk as a result of a car fire).

These men and their associates proceeded to loiter directly on and in front of her property (and on her neighbour’s property) for hours, sitting on their vehicles, even after they were asked to leave.

Numerous telephone calls were made to the Police but, again, no units attended.

The men and their associates left the area only a short time ago.

Frankly, it is offensive that these young men and their associates were able to loiter around these two properties and intimidate an elderly woman for so long without any attendance by the local Police.
