So basically... the consumer ate most of the costs and then the producers get a full refund while we get 0???

At least ONE person is actually looking out for the American people and asking the President to make American families whole again. People paid on average 1k per year extra due to tariffs. I think we should start there.

The US hasn't exactly been able to cover it's debt by targeting it's own people for operational costs. The age of free intervention on our behalf has ended and it's time for the world to pay it's fair share to the world power.

That doesn't matter with respect to refunds for the last nearly year of tariffs. If they were illegal for that entire period then a refund is due, even if new tariff methods are applied (and those will be sued as well).

The question isn't if the refund is due.
It's if it is worth it.
If costco demands a refund and then an economic downturn happens, half the country will blame them and the other half will blame trump.
That sort of shitshow will automatically lock them out of 40-50% of US market share.
The smart play here is to quietly begin manufacturing overseas again instead of demanding reparations in a very public manner.

Not on its own, but the moment someone sues the US Government for damages it is inevitable that they will win, because literally all they have to do is point to the Supreme Court decision as their evidence and argument. And once someone wins, it will be blood in the water for every other company demanding their pound of flesh.
The government can delay and tie things up for a while, but the outcome is inevitable. Trying to fight it in court instead of just settling will just cost the american government, and by proxy the american people, MORE by inflating the overhead with all of the legal battles.

>>
>>528881872
I agree with his logic, honestly. Critics of the tariffs have always said that it's the American people who have been paying them in the form of higher prices.
>>
>>528886866
It will start with one or more companies that got turbofucked by tariffs and desperately need to make up the lost money. Like, the farming industry got absolutely crippled by tariffs and the international backlash to them. They are already like 42 billion in the hole, and thats just from what I remember being said last year so its got to be worse by now.
With losses that bad and many smaller farms already shutting down, they kind of have nothing to lose by seeking their payout. Especially if they do it as a group instead of individual companies, so its not like any single brand can get singled out.

Because it's the opposite of a rational tax plan. It's a regressive tax on lower income earners, who pay high percentages of their income on the new import taxes whereas the rich pay next to nothing. There is no way out of this mess without either permanently deficit spending, accepting that 70% of America will live in poverty due to cut programs... or taxing the rich.

We've seen how this plays out before. The only stable option is taxing the rich. Nothing else is going to result in long term stability.

>Don't know how to fix any of this.

IMO the core of the problem stems from the systems that are supposed to represent the will of the people having been co-opted by special interests. Everyone is mad as hell at the system, but that never changes anything because our voices no longer matter. If the majority actually got what it wanted, it might not be a perfect system but at least *most* people would be happy with the outcome and we could work from that.

So we gotta kill Citizens United, and get corporate and foreign money out of campaign donations. There are other election reforms I'd want to make as well, but if we can't do that at the bare minimum then a handful of people and organizations willing to drop hundreds of millions of dollars on buying politicians will always overpower anything else we try to do.

Amen. Reform campaign finance and increase scrutiny of lobbyists. The problem is that these are entirely nontrivial pursuits because BOTH are subject to SCOTUS opinions. I think this is actually an easier problem to solve than Americans' approach to politics, for the record -- if democrats get a supermajority, they need to end the filibuster and pack the bench. Otherwise, we're looking essentially at a constitutional amendment to go over SCOTUS' head.

All of that still seems more plausible to me than somehow defusing this politics of enmity which will absolutely destroy us.

>The problem is that these are entirely nontrivial pursuits because BOTH are subject to SCOTUS opinions

So there's actually a hope in hell of this happening in the next year or so. Its a bit involved, but bear with me.
Basically, a law was passed in Maine that limited campaign contributions to Super Pacs after it was added to the ballot by petition. Specifically it would say that no individual person may donate more than $5000 to any PAC in a single year.
It was soon after challenged and taken to court, on purpose. The resulting court case is known as "Dinner Table Action v. Schneider". It is currently in the process of getting appealed up the chain, with the goal to put it before the supreme court.

What they have prepared is a strong argument for how Citizens United was based on faulty reasoning that has since been explicitly disproved by legal precedent by other courts whose rulings continue to stand. For example, one of the big supporting arguments for Super Pacs was that by donating money to a PAC anonymously instead of to a candidate directly, you removed the possibility of quid-pro-quo bribery.
This is obviously not true. But, importantly, a NJ Senator named Menedez was specifically indicted on, found guilty of, and removed from office for (wait for it) quid-pro-quo bribery via a Super PAC as ruled by a federal judge.
There are other legal arguments and examples to go along with that, but that one is the real silver bullet because its plan text and unambiguous. The basis of Citizens United has been proven wrong in a court of law and its on the record for everyone to see.

So its actually not impossible that we will see Citizens United overturned in the near future. Fingers crossed.

Its amazing to me how when Biden was in office and everything was jumping in price by 20,30,50% even on a weekly basis they tried to tell us the economy was better than ever and don't believe your receipts. Now that things stopped going up under Trump, they try and tell us everything is still jumping in price. Sick evil fucks.

You retard mutt educated brainlet, those same companies have added the tariff cost back to the customers which reflected in your final price being way higher than pre-tariffs.
Dump nigger mutt. Companies do pay them at the port, but then they add it to the final price back to the customers meaning every american that buys their products.

Tariffs are 3rd world tier bandaid solution, find a long term standing real solution, you could invest in free education, free training, offer 0% interest rate for new entrepreneurs, cut out the jewish monopoly on your productive sector, quit sending billions to Israel and Ukraine, decrease your defense spending from 1.5 trillions to 200 billions, there are lots of solutions but the kikes that rule over you wont let you have them.
>>
>>528890462
His approval rating is too high. Cuck Schumer will be the nominee.

I have the same experience. Most republicans I know (friends, coworkers, neighbours) have all told me they regret voting for Trump. He promised lower egg prices, and instead got us into a trade war with our allies, women's and LGBTQ+ rights abolished, a billionaire has seized control of private citizen's data and federal funds, our military is about to invade Gaza (so much for no new wars lel), he's appointed literal traitors to his cabinet, armed ICE agents are raiding schools and children's hospitals, and EGG PRICES HAVENT GONE DOWN.
I know it's hard to admit you're wrong, but Trump is literally one of the biggest mistakes in American history.

>half the country hates him and wants him impeached
>pisses off literally all his allies, ruins US global hegemony over western world that it has enjoyed since WW2
>Russia and China make fun of him and will take over US spheres of influence across the world as US becomes the new Nazi Germany as no one wants to trade or ally with them, leaving them completely isolated both politically and economically
>gives absolute governmental powers to billionaire oligarch sperg who isn't even american himself
>maga cultists will defend all this just to "own the libs"
What a fucking ride
It will take decades for US to recover it's reputation after this clown
If he isn't stopped soon, we're literally witnessing Fall of Rome in our time

When you offer a product 7X the price of the same product if not superior made in China you basically killed yourself in a free market situation. Now the commies used to restrain foreign products to enter their market, do you want to be a commie and stop the free market’s evolution, or be a true capitalist and compete loyally and succeed in making cheap and good quality locally made products…
It seems that China have won the capitalist game with your own rules.
