windows was always terrible. aero is ugly. gnome 2 on the other hand...
>>529307098PCs now operate like smart phones and tablets. That is the user experience normies demand.Press Windows key > Favorite apps >select appThat is literally as far as any normie wants to dig into a PC. And that's exactly how Windows 11 works.
It's the software equivalent of normgroids hating the prequels and the pretending to love the sequels.

>>529307098People have shitted so hard on windows 8 start menu so hard and are somehow ok with whatever the fuck windows 11 is doing with that.
I am using 11 and noticed that if you install a lot of updates it goes down the bin. The best way to use it is to use apps like shutup10 to prevent it from doing all these minor updates, put in a firewall that disables all outgoing signals you dont need and then go from there. Every 6 months to 1 year you wipe the entire shit clean and reinstall everything. That is how I am doing it
>>529307098I really liked it , looked way cooler than that mutation of win 7 and ff. best was 99 however
>>529307950Kek this really happens once you have it running for a few months. Never had this with 7. > explorer.exe has stopped workingwhen moving huge chunks of dataThis shit started with Windows 10. Chrome has also gotten worse. Even Chromium which I am using has now more crashes than it used to have despite my hardware being much more powerful.
>>529308296It had that early 2000s space aesthetics imho. I liked XP best, shit was a virus infected whore though. I stopped having issues with viruses at Windows 8 basicallly.
>>529307098>I still see normies making jokes about Vista.the UI was goated they only cried cause they had driver issues in pre-sp2 vista
>>529307098The problem with Aero is it was slow on low-end PCs, and I personally don't like its aesthetics but I know people who like it.The fact Windows 7 went back to look like Windows 2000 also makes me think that even then, many weren't fond of Aero. And it will never be as hated as the Windows 8 tiles. Now everyone seems to agree on this one.
>>529308231I don't have the same experience with the updates but I do reinstall windows once a year.
>>529308353i already knew you were a petafile bill when you removed windows classic theme in windows 10
no we didn't visa aero was so good, the problem was how resource heavy it was, back then everyone was averaging 256mb of ram, 512 if you were rich.
>>529308119trusperged out when i opted out of everything and then mid use shut down and updated
>>529308362In my experience as you increase the updates the odds of something breaking increases too. One day you then turn machine on and something essential is not working anymore and you have to spend an entire morning to get audio back to working again or some shit. Recently I had the issue that after an update Google Remote Desktop didnt transfer audio anymore.
>>529308387>windows classic themeYeah, I miss it too.It seems like Windows version are like French presidents : when you think the current one is awful and you've hit rock-bottom, the next one manages to be even worse.

>>529308065Sir I am a power user administrator since the 90s. I run arch on my PC and laptop. Windows is just for me to babysit you normie faggots and get paid for it.
>>529308119Fucking retard. 8.1 is better than 10
Vista was shit because the graphical part of the OS was very slow. Vista was basically adding lots of visual effects without giving you anything of value. I guess product owners of vista assumed people were stupid and liked shiny things.Anyway the performance tanked. Look at windows 95,98,2000 and see how perfect it was for performance. Computers became useless with vista installed because all you did was wait for graphics usually with 5 fps or less making it look uglier then its snappy predecessors.Computer manufacturers were not prepared for vista requirements and windows set minimum specs too low for anyone to have a good experience on vista.
>>529309544the start menu on vista always came up in like 0.01 seconds or lesson windows 11 it takes 5 seconds, minimum, for the start menu to appear after clicking
They should've stopped at W10 and add a bunch of themes. For example if someone wanted his pc to look like windows XP..
>>529309659itd be like this if they didn't get rid of all the original developrs and replace them with women and jeets
>>529309631On modern hardware, when it came out it wasnt uncommon to have 5+ min boot up time and every thing was sluggish there. Win11 is retarded, waiting for internet services before showing the start menu, but thats not the topic.Sure if you install vista on modern hardware the issues I talked about will be erased. The issue was that vista was too much for computer hardware at the time of its life and release. Besides, 95, 98, 2000 and xp were just better. Their performance compared to vista and everything else is ridicilously good.
Late Vista was great. Third best version after 7 and 10.
>>529310750Vista decreased my GTA iv framerate
>>529307098Vista wasn't hated for its UI but because it shipped with crippling bugs like file copying running at single digit megabytes for no apparent reason (it was a launch bug, it got patched in next months patch tuesday), and because they were not strict enough with the "Vista Ready" requirements so OEMs could slap the OS on Netbooks with 1GB RAM, single core cpus, and iGPUs with no Vista drivers.Plus you had shit like nForce 3 boards, that had top tier for the time configs far in excess of what Vista required, simply not working because no drivers were ever released.Windows 7 was really just Vista SP3 but with 3 extra years of preparation so hardware and drivers problems no longer existed.Except for my old flatbed scanner which I had to use through fucking Virtual PC because Canon did not bother making 64-bit drivers.
>>529309765>On modern hardware, when it came out it wasnt uncommon to have 5+ min boot up time and every thing was sluggish there. If you had 5 min boot times with Vista, it was because you launched it from some 5400rpm 2.5" drive with 512MB RAM and had three antivirus apps installed. Which was actually quite common because OEMs slapped Vista on anything.I had it running on a HD501LJ with 2GB RAM on an Athlon 64 X2 and it ran just fine. The only issue was the nForce3 drivers, I had to swap motherboards to a Via chipset one because of that. My later Core 2 Duo had no such issues.
>>529311072This. Vista would literally crash constantly.
>>529311327Yeah lol, I do remember that. I was using 4chan in 2006.
>>529311327>>529311412I never used vista even once. What kind of trtard used vista? 7 to 10. XP to 7.
>>529307098It wasn't the UI. Vista was a pile of shit that crashed every few minutes. I think it was shit like Aero or something that messed with graphics settings, and the rest was just written like shit. XP worked out of the box and that's what everyone wanted
>>529307098Yeah... and Windows Vista wasn't fundamentally broken. Windows 7 was the last good OS. Some might say 10, but that's only because they're remembering 10 now in the light of 11. Anything 10 and later is pozzed beyond fixing.
>>529307098Not truth, I remember everyone saying vista was better.
>>529307493Alex Pretti was a loser
>>529307098Everyone hated Vista when it came out because it was slow and had annoying UAC prompts that interrupted whatever you were doing. Windows 7 fixed all of the problems of Vista and everyone loved Windows 7. Windows 7 was better technically and aesthetically. Windows 7 is still the best.
>>529307098because XP was awesome and they forced that shite on us
>>529309631>on windows 11 it takes 5 seconds, minimum, for the start menu to appear after clickingYeah, this is both disgusting and hilarious. Death to all pajeets.
>>529311692I think the crashes were causes by RAM issues.Vista needed more resources that XP. Retail shops updated to Vista on computers that barely met the minimum specs.
>>529311855Vista is more aesthetically cohesive than 7. The big problem of Vista was that Microsoft did not allow developers enough time to port to the new driver model. UAC prompts existed in 7 too, but slowly developers learned that you don't have to modify system files all the time and programs can run without those permissions, from the user's folder. There really wasn't anything uniquely bad about Vista and uniquely good about 7.
>>529307098The 7 version of aero was my favourite UI.
>>529307098all subsequent "versions" of windows is just shit packed on top of the other shit. And that's what's annoying about it. Imo windows 10 hit the spot where the stuff from the previous versions was still easily findable and then you had new shiny graphics on top of it if you chose to use that
>>529307176currently trying to get ubuntu to upgrade properly on a sdd i pulled out from another laptop and put in my mom's. And i get unintended upgrade process hindering the upgrade. Ok, cunt - then give me the option to kill it, instead of making me search for it. Not to mention the laptop is very old, so every additional task I need to do on it is pain in the assthis is the reason why people don't want to touch linux. Although it got much better. the install is easy and if you're just browsing internet you don't need anything more.
>>529310750>7, 10, VistaIf you don't think XP was the single greatest OS of its time then you probably are a kid.But to be honest, if Microsoft remade Windows 98 with the same original UI but make it compatible to run modern programs it would be better than any other Windows OS
>>529309659we should have never advanced from dos. DOS was peak and kept the cancerous normalniggers out

>>529311327>This. Vista would literally crash constantly.I was running it from day 0 and it was actually pretty stable, if you had the right drivers.Problem was the drivers situation being completely horrid unless you bought hardware made after Vista was released. And sometimes even then it was a toss up (Geforce 8800 came out advertising DX10 compatibility, with DX10 being tied to Vista, but the card only had drivers for Windows XP at launch).
>>529312218ok, i've figured it out - fucking old version of brave browser was causing issues with some dead end repositoriesbut this is the issue with this fuckign system - it's annoying to deal with
>>529308231why are you using windows?
>>529307176Everyone knows windows peaked at ME, only retarded sperms think otherwise.
>>529311855The UAC prompts were by design to notify you that you are running some app that could do whatever the fuck it wanted with the system, and for something like an image viewer that was either suspicious or a sign of the program being badly coded.Windows 7 had exactly as many UAC issues as Vista, and required as high hardware as Vista. The difference was that after 3 years of Vista being out, hardware makers were forced to make proper drivers, software devs were forced to release updates that aren't retardedly coded and did not bring up UAC unless absolutely necessary, and most people got new hardware which could run the system decently. Windows 7 wasn't better, it's only the rest of the ecosystem that caught up with it. If Vista was not released, the Windows 7 launch would've been as catastrophic as the Vista one.
>>529307493Pretti dumb
>>529311692I had vista running on my gaming laptop. This was circa the Windows Mojave ad campaign so a year or so after the terrible launch. At that point I didn't have driver issues and obviously specs to run it. It ran perfectly fine, I only upgraded to 7 when my dorm mate let me use his credentials to get 7 for free.
>>529311972>I think the crashes were causes by RAM issues. It was caused by drivers, or rather, the lack of them.Like, it was so bad that some hardware had to be ran using XP drivers forced to load, which at least got the hardware working, but it wasn't stable. There's a reason Vista started forcing driver signing with one of the service packs.
>>529313053Yeah, it eventually became usable after a ton of updates and hardware caught up. I just never bothered and stuck with it until 7, which had basically the same requirements as vista IIRC kek
>>529307098Windows 7 was the last decent Microsoft OS. 8 had a shit UI and 10/11 are just bloatware.
>>529307098>windowsObsolete. Excel and stuff runs in the browser. Games run on Linux and wine. There’s no reason to use windows any longer except laziness
>>529313222>Excel and stuff runs in the browserUnless they actually ported in vba support, then no. Excel is basically the only thing keeping me bound to microshit at this point.I'm considering moving my shit to pyspread or any other spreadsheet with similar options.
>>529313222Browser excel will always be a cut down version. And sheets is streets behind.
>>529307098You can make any Windows from XP forward look like any other windows. There were aero apps for xp like glassxp that worked with sp3 and I think came packaged with most packs of black edition. Between that and classic shell / classic start menu rocketdock etc I've had the same clean desktop glass and dock look for like the last six versions / 25 years. Its always just well chosen wallpaper at the current year's standard resolution, a dock and glass windows. The only thing thats changed is gaining, then losing, then regaining the ability to tint the glass different colors.
>>529307098The problem wasn't the UI

>>529307098just use linux for your everyday stuff and keep windows for stuff that you really need windows for. you can make linux look however you want. mine looks and works pretty much the same way XP did back in the day and thats a good thing.even have winamp at the top of every window.
>>529313154yeah 7 was solid and the last one that looked and worked normally instead of trying to bridge into being like a tablet or something.
>>529308119Zero control over anything, no ability to avoid MS malware and surveillance, built in storefronts. Recently windows has been fucking around with folder settings now that support has ended and they want you to move on. This will be the last windows OS i use.
Vista was never hated for the UI - it had W7 UI basically. And W7 is regarded as the "best" OS - most stable, pleasing to the eyes, etc ...I had the displeasure of using Vista a couple of times on company / friends machines and it was slooooow as hell. Installed a W7 beta preview when it came out to the company laptop and it worked leagues better but looked ~same UI wise.I still have W7 on my "gaming" PC.Linux FTW for daily driver. I cringe every time I touch a W11 and the start menu lags like I'm using W95 on a 286.
>>529308119Awful layout. Why "fix" what ain't broke? The Start button worked but they got rid of it and made the OS harder to navigate for no reason.
>>529311692>XP worked out of the boxLOL it was a buggy POS until SP2 came out.
>>529307098Windows 11 memory leaks if youopen the start menu and cant even run Notepad. That said I prefer the minimalism in the same sense that Ableton looks universal and functional whereas FL Studio which has more flashy animation and stuff has dated UI, minimalism never gets dated, the real problem with modern windows is not Frontend (altho the new wifi bluetooth sound settings are peak trash admittingly) but the actual backend which is bloated unoptimized trash, which pains me because OSX is peak trash and Linux was made for friendless gigaautists
>>529309631>on windows 11 it takes 5 seconds, minimum, for the start menu to appear after clickingNot for my computer (not this one running 7). The motherboard's firmware won't allow Windows 11 to update. So everything actually works fine. Windows will bug me to update my motherboard's firmware but I tell it no and carry on.
>>529316576>Linux was made for friendless gigaautistsits certainly not like that now though

>>529308353The only reason metro (minimalist flat) or whatever exists right now is because of tablets. They wanted everything to be easily scalable to tablets, phones, and touch screens and they were too cheap and lazy to support different UIs for different hardware. So you need all these oversized buttons and empty space everywhere so zoomers can get brainwashed more easily.Meanwhile if you are one of the few people who actually uses a PC with mouse and keyboard you are just having trash force-fed to you for no reason.
>>529316755Can it run the following things:> Games> Unity3D> Blender> Premiere, and After Affects> Photoshop and Illustrator or Lightroom> DAWS like FL Studio Ableton Reason or Qubase If not its just not for me im gonna try keeping Windows 10 for my hobbies as long as i can but i really hate Windows 11, on my laptop windows 11 doesnt even have workable volume bars just stopped working lmfao can probably fix it in regedit but this is fresh windows 11 so its insane that even happens. I also just know quite a bit about Windows for Zoomer standards (born in 1999 first windows was 1998) so i can keep it functional but every other software just seems to lag and stutter despite me running 16gb ram rtx 4070 with an i7 on a sandysk SSD it just shouldnt lmfao. In an ideal world id just have Windows 7 with Windows 10 ui (8 and 11 are horrendous as is vista lmfao ) forever
Longhorn was the most aesthetically pleasing
>>529316920>keep windows for X reasonsi think thats the way to go, but just run a current linux distro for shitposting, downloading, movies/music etc because it just works.
>>529307098I ran it from GM release (hell, I was at the Irish launch event for it as a vendor employee) and never had a single issue. It was more stable than XP, particularly with overclocked graphics cards. I think most people didn't like it because they were trying to run it on old garbage.
>>529307176All Linux UIs look really cheap. Like those fake desktops in movies and games.

>>529307228I despised the shift to using the word app to describe every program on a workstation. App isn't just short for application, it is a miniature version of a an application meant to do specific things. Now every retard calls everything an app. That was the turning point
>>529307098I absolutely adored it, and still absolutely adore it.
>>529307098I liked it the aesthetic, but you have to consider what the average PC hardware was at the time. This was not an OS geared towards performance, shall we say
Design wise, the longhorn prototype shit was better. Then they ruined it all and made "vista". Also ran worse on every account.Windows peaked at 7, IMO.Both design wise and in functionality.
>>529317889> You need an emulation of a working OS to run things on my OS Kek
>>529307098If people hated the GUI then W7 wouldn't have been popular either. Vista was a disaster in many ways but it looked really sleek and modern for its time.
>>529307493He was a massive faggot (literally)
>>529307098I never heard anyone complaining about the Vista GUI. People hated Vista because of 3 things:1. The usual early version bugs2. The lack of drivers or shitty drivers in the early years3. Vista did require better hardware than XP, but people didn't understand that. It didn't help that MS put the requirements way too low. See: >>529310750
>>529307098People only disliked the GUI because it made their computer run like dog shit. The biggest problems with vista were the driver/stability issues and how memory hungry it was compared to XP.
>>529318288With emulation I'm referring to old systems, dos, c64, apple ii, vintage mac, arcade.. thus running everything. VMs are my preference but wrappers/translation layers are getting more popular. wrappers & hardware passthrough has things running at full speed, It's the best setup minus one, games with anti-cheat that flag virtual machines as cheating.
>>529307098My first laptop ran Vista (poorly). So much more beautiful compared to XP on my old desktop. Nowadays I use the LTSC IOT version of W10 until it reaches eol in 2032. Then I guess I will start using Linux, assuming personal computers are still allowed to the goyim
>>529307098Vista's UI was new and uncomfortable. People never got *comfortable* with it because the backend code, new stuff , etc, was broken, and XP was nearly *perfect*. 7 came out soon and we moved on.

In windows I could have 4 folder explorers open at the same time with 50+ icons visible in each and drag things back and forth between them. Look at that massive strip of empty space on the left side of the desktop. Why?I own shit so I have folders with 500+ files in them.
Pajeets are dumping dead bodies in the code base.
