The idea I'm sure was, is that they can't just keep inventing new puzzles and permutations on tried tropes and they will eventually hit a ceiling. Therefore, they would be smart to slowly shift the concept and idea of gaming into one that is easier to control and keep on track like with movie releases. This also clearly didn't work, and the games that it did work for, normie nigger slop like the last of us, became TV shows anyways. All of this will be surprising news for many companies and gamers.
