In the past, a nation meant something. Nations rise from people groups, who rise from families. In an ideal nation, it is full of extended family. The nation's achievements meant something.
In the modern world, nations are economic territories. Of course it doesn't make sense to have pride in your nation. It is flooded with shit people from everywhere with nothing in common. This is past vs present.
