Wasn’t it? With every passing hour it looks like neither the US or Israel had any plans past the first aerial bombardments. The only rational conclusion is that Trump made some people even richer.

I think it's more likely both American and Israeli politicians got freaked out by polling that shows most Americans hold more sympathy towards Gaza than Israel and realized that a regime change war in Iran is a now or never situation.

It was sold to Trump as the final "push" to get regime change. Take out the leadership. Then of course they also want to try to degrade Iran's missile/anti-air capability, because they expect a response. But if they do the attack on Saturday night, it could all be over before the stock market opens on Monday. You might get an exchange but at most it's a week of these missile exchanges, similar to the last two times. That's how it was probably sold to him.

Where things "went wrong" is that Israel gets into Iran (thanks to US tankers), they hit targets like multiple girls schools. Which provoke a stronger than expected reaction. But I think this was the plan all along for Israel, to do their best (in that limited window they had) to try to drag the US into fighting a war.

That said, I don't think the capacity is there for a prolonged conflict. The Ukraine war has been draining stockpiles, and the last two years of this Iran shit has also drained stockpiles further. It takes a long time for those big longer range missiles to be produced. That's why we saw Israel drop its bombs up close on softer targets (non-military), they wanted to use whatever they had to inflict pain (and strong reaction) rather than purely military targets.

The only saving grace really is that if Trump is getting a lot of shit about "starting a war" he will absolutely want to cut a deal as soon as possible if it makes him look bad, he does care a lot about what others think of him. And I think that's also why you saw the appeals for "ceasefire" and things like that, the dumb boomer really didn't expect the reaction.

Now will anyone get fired? No. Because Israel was free to do its evil and the US government is under blackmail.

>looks like Israel had no idea what to do next
Correct, the Venezuela deposing has the exact same problem. War without a clear, achievable goal is bound for failure.
Regime change in Iran is not possible, Iran has never chosen democracy in all of its history and they won't accept the western born son of the Shah.

It’s not clear to me who took out the school. In the opening hours Iran was boasting about only using its old arsenal (lol) and warned the US/Israel that its new arsenal was kill. Is it possible that a misfire due to old arsenal landed on the school? Maybe.

The Trump administration is completely delusional, they are either so compromised that they are unable to say no to Israel OR they are so thoroughly insulated from the real situation and public opinion that they don't know.

They ate up their own propaganda about Iran wanting a regime change.
In reality Iran wasn't even remotely as oppressive as they thought.
Watching even a single "Iran walk" video on youtube would have told them this, as they even have goth girls over there. It's not some super religious shitpit where they stone women for not wearing hijabs.
Yet they tried staging few protests and thought this would be enough to rile the population up for a regime change.
Turns out that reality wasn't in line with their misguided fantasies.
If anything there's more desire for a regime change anywhere in the West than in Iran.
Now it gets fun as US/Israel has to escalate and it's going to be a big shitshow.
