>We will escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz
Trump tweeted this to the entire world before someone had to educate him on why this was a bad idea. Nobody even checked him before he ran his fucking retarded mouth on Twitter.

Just think about that for a moment. That is proof enough he is absolutely mentally unfit to be President let alone commander in chief at this point.

Why is it a bad idea?
>>

It isn't, /pol/ is just filled with seething browns.

Easy way to bankrupt the DFC for one.
>>

All I know is Trump's trying to bless Israel. And I think that means he will be blessed.
And I don't want to think about what happens to those who curse Israel.
>>
>>529930885
Because it's a 30 mile wide death trap where our ships will be sitting ducks for missiles that can be fired from anywhere.
>>
>>529930989
This is a retarded shill line.
If I name myself Israel will you say the same about me?
>>
>>529930885
It's not a bad idea for trump, it's a bad idea for anyone dumb enough to trust him with their multimillion dollar hard to replace shipping vessel and crew in the event they really do launch a rocket at it.

It's very obvious he will not actually reimburse any losses. A tweet is not a legally binding insurance policy. They would get blown the fuck up and the company would be told to pound sand if they actually asked for reimbursement.

>Houthis or Somali pirates damage multi-million dollar US vessels with cheap ass drones
>>
>>529930970
You would only bankrupt it, if the ships would start sink in mass. How will Iran sink them, especially if there would be an escort?
>>
>>529930885
Insurance cost is the biggest problem. Who's going to pay for that? You have any idea how many ships cross the strait every day? Iran only needs to hit a couple of them and bankrupt the DFC.

Israel is a brown country

>Why is it a bad idea?
Because the straight of Hormuz is a killbox.
All USN ships have fucked off from the Persian gulf, the straight and Gulf of Oman and are at the SE fringes of the Arabian sea (Lincoln CSG is in the Indian ocean doing nothing).
Anything that moves in can (and will) be targeted by more missiles than the entire fleet has interceptors.

This is why it is a bad idea.
for Iran, a "short range" anti ship missile has a 300km range.
That's the entire width of the gulf of Oman.
But most of their anti ship missiles fall in the 500-2000+ km range.
With still operational radar systems, drone surveillance and Chinese satellite feeds this is not good.

Every time the USN has ships within 650km of Iran, they fire a missile or two at them.
This is why the USN stays out, because even if they have managed to survive so far it is in the end a game of probabilities.
A 90% interception rate means nothing when the enemy fires hundreds of missiles at you.
So for the first time in decades, there are no USN ships in the gulf(s).

3 other problems
>They can come from almost a 180 degree arc
>They can be fired from close range minimizing detection and reaction time
>They can come significant depth in land, from mountainous terrain making them even harder to detect
>>
>>529930811
y-you mean that a cabinet full of reality stars, propagandists, yes men, fascists, and evangelicals is also retarded?
>>
It's actually a great idea. I would recommend seizing Kharg (easy) and Qeshm Islands (harder because there's more people) but even without that make convoys WWII style.
>>

And? Just because I hate Kikes doesn't mean I have to like my other enemies.

Let me correct that, looking closer at a map they can come from a greater than 180 degree arc plus you will have to contend with Iranian small missile boats, Iran has a naval base on that Island.

All of that is true.
You also have sea skimmers that are below the horizon until they are <30km from the target.
The USN just barely evaded the Houthis low intensity bombardment where they out of pure luck destroyed a drone with the CIWS 200 meters from the carrier.
At another occasion they had to make a hard turn to avoid a ballistic missile, and the turn was so hard that they lost an FA18 from the deck.

That was from the Houthis, with less resources and no satellite feeds.
If you are a navy commander, how many times will you bet that you will be lucky?
