One of the early big changes is when communities get internet that doesn't require dial up. That was the big ramp up for tens of millions of customers. Then the laptops got popular in the early 2000's. They were everywhere after that. And of course 2007 saw the iPhone debut. Most people don't need a laptop or desktop except for easier access to email and storing pictures. But the smart phone is now how you do nearly everything.
