At what point did it become a complete necessity for young people to be active on social media to avoid social disconnection from their peers?

If you weren’t on normiebook in 2009/2010 as a teen you were considered an incel schizo psycho
>>5299601332007 to 2009 is the cutoff date
Fuck normies
>>529960133Myspace was all the rage from 2005-2007. Tom never sold my data. Never tried to manipulate me. Never banned me for naughty words. Only wanted to sell me concert tickets so i can go out and maybe get laid.
>>529960133about 2005 when people were migrating from myspace to facejewnobody ever gave their real name online prior to that, in fact the culture was pretty much to make up a name when giving out personal infothen facejew came along and the new tacit normal was for you to use your real name to 'connect' with your former schoolmates lmfaoneedless to say, normie cattle conformed to fit in, probably the very first psyop
>>529960133When the smart phone got super popular. But you were seeing signs of online communities as far back as anyone can remember. One of the early big changes is when communities get internet that doesn't require dial up. That was the big ramp up for tens of millions of customers. Then the laptops got popular in the early 2000's. They were everywhere after that. And of course 2007 saw the iPhone debut. Most people don't need a laptop or desktop except for easier access to email and storing pictures. But the smart phone is now how you do nearly everything.
>>529961191Tom is based. Instead of being a greedy jew like zuckerberg he cashed out after he became uber successful and used his money to be a world traveling photographer. I wish rich people were more like Tom.
>>529960133A long time ago, I was in high school in the early 2000s and I had to get a xanga and then a myspace against my will, then a facebook, just to keep in touch with the same girls. AIM as well obviously though that wasn't quite social media. Of course in hindsight I wish I had never met them.
>>529960133I still think Friendster is the way to go.
>>529960133The biggest irony in all of this — everything the current social media firms offer now in exchange for them collecting and selling your data could be provided at virtually no cost and with real protections for privacy. It's the biggest scam in history.
>>529960738that were the only years i got social media with my real name, it was last year of high school and everybody wanted to tag me on their stupid pictures so i made one, then after graduation i deleted it
>>529960285This. When houses began to be unaffordable for the next generation entering the job market. When you can't afford houses next to your family/friends: Internet friendships for the poor(majority). Which means that there is less to fight for/defend when this feel good message on line from friends can be replaced by a chat bot.
