Keep in mind that's the biggest reason the Chinese people let the CCP stay in power because of the strong economy they promised and provided. Also western powers don't have to directly fight China, they own and control all the maritime traffic chokepoints so they could enforce a straight up embargo. Taiwan isn't just a question about if China can overpower the US and land on the beaches, and successfully regime change. They have to factor in all the other risks and ways western powers can fuck them over after.
