Aka no dangerous swings in monetary policy field by economic instability etc etc. The second reason it became a lingua franca of currencies had to do with the utility of using it- aka it was the native currency of a nation that was having widespread commerce being conducted with other countries. Anyways, again it has been a long time since this was true of the US, or any country for that matter. And this of course all happened when the dollar was gold backed- however no one is going to jump ship to another currency that has none of these advantages. It may be true that the US dollar no longer has these advantages, but compared to the Euro, it still does.
