SSRIs are one of the most prescribed drugs in the western world. What is the general consensus on them on this board? Do any of you have any personal experience with them and did they have a positive or negative impact?
>>
have caused me to lose hundreds of thousands of dollars via stupid investment ideas
have damaged family relationships by making me say weird shit
have almost resulted in divorce with my wife when she takes them because she suddenly loses feelings for me

SSRIs are insidious and almost as bad as fentanyl
>>
>>530339464
They are some of the worst shit that gets prescribed like candy. Only thing that is maybe worse are contraceptive pills.
>>
>>530339464
Made me feel dull like an NPC. At that point I'd rather do actual druqs
Also first thing I've seen the Pfizer logo on, years before the coof
>>
>>530339464
Hadn't ever been perscribed them or taken them but the general vibe from what I've seen among people who took SSRIs or MAOIs around me seem to lose the ability to feel a gut wrenching sorrow at things going wrong.
I think it's a mechanism of control in a way, it's normal to sorrow and overwhelming frustration at life treating you wrong, or world going in a bad direction, and if you volountary give it up then change will have to happen through other motivating forces.
I think they are overprescribed.

shit dude that sucks ive been taking lexapro for 10 years and it helped me stop laying down and spiraling into my thoughts or getting pissed at the grocery store. the withdrawals are awful. not a bad trade off compared to you. oranges make me feel pretty good too.
>>
>>530339464
Yeah I tried them for the lols, got into a lot of fights

>have caused me to lose hundreds of thousands of dollars via stupid investment ideas
I began gambling when I was on them. I totally lost that shitty nagging feeling you get after losing money. There was no longer any "why did I do that? I feel terrible. I won't do it again". There was just numbness. So I'd do it again, and again. This is ironic because SSRIs supposedly reduce dopamine which is meant to be the gambling neurotransmitter. But there you go.
>>530340161
This guy has a pretty good lock on it for someone who has never taken them.
>>
they made my pp limp :(
>>
It's massive medical malpractice. There's no evidence that depression is caused by any kind of neurochemical imbalance, and the mechanisms of SSRIs are poorly understood anyway.

What they do is pacify people. That's it. They're a medical tool of control. Never take them. Better to live honestly insane than to neuter your brain like that.

the cia been doing that to create situations of problems for society

Human behavior is a lot of controlling the bodies of other humans and it will never not be funny to me when morbidly obese corn syrup blimps try to lecture my ass on health
>NO DON'T SMOKE THE WEED
I'm skinny from eating right and workout I don't need to hear this shit.
>>
>>530339464
The science on them is bunk. They don't work. Serotonin deficiency isn't the cause of depression.
>>
Bros I have brain fog almost 100% of the time and get a twitchy eyelid every once in a while. I am fit and active, have a gf. What could it be from?
>>
>>530339464
it's for modern women.
>>
>>530340511
Same experience and it was like being stuck in a loop. No clue as to what I was thinking but I didn't even realize what was going on until some time after being off of them.
>>
>>530339464
It made me feel numb, which is better than my mind crazy
>>
>>530341097
How much sleep do you get per night, and what is your diet like?
>>
Ive heard mixed things about them. Some say they changed their life and made them a normal person again, others say it does nothing.

I'd say if your life is in shambles and you're feeling stuck with no motivation, then give them a try and see if they help with your mood so you can get things in order again. I wouldn;t stay on them for life though and you should try to fix things organcally.
>>
Lexapro helped me get the motivation to get a better job and some hobbies. I dont need it any more.
>>
>>530339464
Only junkies take them.
>>
>>530341532
My watch says I'm around 7.5h on average. I eat mostly whole foods, I have very little sugar in my diet and try to eat as few processed foods as I can. I don't smoke or drink either. I've gotten blood work done semi recently and all my numbers are good, I'm lost.
>>
>>530339464
im biased but they helped my sister stop from panicking and trying to kill herself when she was in an absolute nightmarish rut and for that reason i cant fully write them off as a class of drug

they do seem wildly overprescribed though
>>

DO NOT TAKE THEM

Was taking escitalopram and wellbutrin for two years. Put on some weight, people close to me swore up and down that I was not an asshole anymore. Cut them both off a couple months ago, no problem. I am now back to lean and mean mode. The cool thing about these drugs is that they insulate you from everyday annoyances, in my experience anyway. They also put you in a semi-permanent good mood for no reason, almost like being retarded (the good kind tho)

they will likely make you impotent and gaing weight like a sweet wheat dough, perhaps some small brain zaps and psychosis too

SSRIs can genuinely help and are a great tool for some though they are handed out far too easily, especially considering all the side effects. Some of these side effects can even last for a while after you are off them.
I never took any myself but read through studies and heard many different reports from people who took them.
Fixing depression is more complex and depends on the individual. Just taking medication or simply going to the gym won't fix it most of the time.

He could still have sleep apnea or othersleep issues. When I was at a clinic, the vast majority of patients had some severe sleep issue.

Go to the doctor and check for vitamin D deficiency, testosterone levels and overall blood values. If you have normal values and no deficiencies, start taking rhodiola.
>>
>>530343378
Two shots of moderna during peak coof times but nothing since. This predates that though.
>>
>>530342506
You may have a food allergy. These can pop up at any time throughout your life, especially with all the garbage that's in the food chain these days. You might want to start an elimination diet. Gluten is a common one which can cause neuro inflammation and consequently brain fog. Onions aswell.
>>
>>530339464
You don't need drugs to not feel depressed. YOU NEED TO STOP DOING THE SHIT THAT MAKES YOU FEEL THAT WAY.
Modern lifestyles are all wrong.

You're suffering from parasitic infection.

I have actually gotten a sleep test done and there wasn't anything wrong according to the doctors. I got blood work done back in October and my Vitamin D levels were fine, they didn't check test levels so that's a possibility.

>>530343564
No gluten in my diet, I'm mainly chicken, rice, spinach, yogurt, nuts, and seasonal fruits.
>>
>>530344366
Good to here that these things are fine. If there is nothing wrong with your test either you should try rhodiola.
>>

They shield you from reality. Like alcohol but without the highs and the lows. You just exist for a while.
>>
>>530339464
it's a subtle perma-intoxication that puts your brain in a more basic state by flooding it with serotonin.

took them for a few months after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis but got off of them immediately after the shock had subsided.

perfect drug for aging childless women.
>>
>>530339464
I took them for like 6 months when I was 14. The first weeks made me feel like I was high, I would just be looking at the fucking ground and be thinking "damn, that's a beautiful floor!" and shit like that. That feeling went away, then I just sort of existed, I don't know, made no difference, I stopped taking them abruptly and didn't feel anything different either. I was still somewhat depressed even on them, just a bit less. It helped me reset my brain, though, it made my insomnia disappear.
>>
>>530344366
Eliminate spinach and yogurt. They can histamine issues
>>
Not just SSRIs but also SNRI, anti psychotics, mood stabilizers, and even ketamine for depression have had a negative impact on me. The meds caused me to behave abnormally. I should have done more research before going to a psychiatrist. Biggest mistake of my life.
