Who took Christian stories, rebranded them into an empire? Well the Romans for sure, but this is not in regards to The Holy Roman Empire. This is in regards to the antichrist himself, Pope Nicholas V who ascended the papacy in 1447.Pope Nicholas V began the foundation of the Vatican Apostilic Library. After the fall of Constantinople in 1453 enormous amounts of scholars from that region fled to Italy, bringing manuscripts of ancient authors with them. The pope funded the translation and copying of these texts. In 1452 the Dum Diversas was enacted, authorizing Portugal to attack non-christian peoples, conquer territory and enslave captured populations. In 1455 Romanus Pontifex granted Portual a monopoly over explorations along the African coast, rights to claim newly discovered lands and authority over trade and conquest. This all laid the foundation for The Doctrine of Discovery.
