Today, President of Madagascar Michael Randrianirina ordered the dissolution of PM Herintsalama Rajaonarivelo's government, state spokesman Harilaumaranto Rahajaminasoina announced.

While no official reason was given, citizens have been critical of Rajaonarivelo's ties to controversial tycoon Ramanantsoanda Ratsiranahoranina, accused of unfairly profiting off of Madagascar's onshore oil wealth.

Until a new cabinet is formed, President Randrianirina appointed Deputy PM Ravalomanana Rajaonarimampianina to take charge of the government.

Notably, Defence Minister Razakandanisa Rakotosararimanana will remain in office, at a time when the country is still reeling from security issues following the coup.
