The entire modern world is a corruption of the purpose of humanity. The purpose of humanity is to live in little tribes and have children and utilize our unique capacity for tradition and problem solving to govern ourselves into a stable social situation, raise our kids right and pass on our traditions, and apply our technical problem solving skills to make the most of our resources and make life a little better for our kids.
The whole notion of being "autonomous" is meaningless, autonomy as an individual means to just commit evolutionary suicide and cull yourself from the tree of life, a genetic dead end. Of course some of us are destined to contribute more to the collective (art/culture/science/etc) and not everyone has to reproduce but the vast majority of people will find the most meaning in life from simply reproducing and passing on their culture to the next generation. Except for truly exceptional autists like Newton etc, for most people a lifestyle that is not centered around creating a family and children is a deeply diseased mental state that can only be the product of extreme environmental stressors causing this bizarre and unnatural behavior.
