Why haven’t you taken the land pill yet?
1. Place to enjoy in the woods
2. Can be refuge if things go bad
3. Good investment
4. Comfy in the woods

you bongs can own it far more than we can when it comes to the yearly bribes we have to pay our governments to keep owning our land.

I own 20 acres of pasture + my house. I have some cows and chickens right now. I work a full time corpo wage slave job plus fariming. This combo will wear you out. Im only 4 years in and im ready to move back to the suburbs.

YOU CAN'T OWN LAND ON STOLEN LAND WHITEY

Because as long as property tax exists, you can't own land. You just rent it from the gubberment

I'm looking at buying a mining claim. It's a 99 year lease, no taxes, 40 acres on a creek, $5k.

Might even do some gold panning.

Working two jobs is exhausting. When my grandparents stopped farming, they just rented the land out to a farmer down the street.

Think about what you just wrote.
The man has a full time corpo job. If he cuts his work/hours down there are guaranteed more than a few girl boss types willing to do it or worse they meet him.
The farm...well.... It is what it is..what I would do with 20 acres of pasture is split it up into smaller pastures via fencing. I'd then have gates set on timers that opened to allow for automatic rotational grazing. I'd have minimum of two gates for each pasture opening in case of failure of one. I'd then surround the compound with double fencing with a sort of no man's land in between that would be mowed and baled. This would help prevent escape(more redundancy). Monitor via wifi cameras like they have for security at construction sites. I hope this idea helps him. >>530388718

The government here keeps selling the rights from under people to the "original natives" that may have a great great great grandpa that picked berries there.

No the mortgage is nearly paud off from the sale of my shitty suburb mcmansion but theres no way to work less hours and i need the job to bankroll the farm startup. Theres just too much work to do around here its never ending.
>>
>>530389691
So it's bullshit, got it.
>>
>>530390013
>I'd then have gates set on timers that opened to allow for automatic rotational grazing.
sounds like you have no idea what you're talking about really. moving a couple cows around and giving them some extra hay etc takes no time. same with managing a small flock of chickens, that put themselves away at night anyway. i do this btw. they dont need any fucking all day wifi monitoring. if its 20 acres of usable grass for the cows you wouldn't even bother worrying about them over grazing it, though might have to set them out in a 100-200m electric fenced area sometimes if they tend to neglect certain areas.

and we have no idea what kind of job he's talking about.
>>
>>530390385
sounds like you'll just have to made do best you can until you can cut the outside work down. done stress about it - you've got the place and it wont fall to pieces so long as you keep up basic tending. im happy for you. bank as much as you can then you'll be able to screw the full time job before long.
>>
>>530390419

in commerce he who leaves the battlefield last wins
>>
>>530390485
Rotational grazing is the most effective. You can't really have a vacation if you need to move the cows around every week. Then again, it depends on how many cows a "couple" are kek
>>
>>530390757
farmers will generally have someone come in to look after a farm if they want to go away.
>>
>>530387629
that's a flood zone retard
>>
>>530391152
That probably explains the price. Still, not bad if you're willing to clear debris for the next few years.
Assuming it's Hills Creek there's a laser metal cutter and wood pallet supplier nearby so you'd be set on construction materials.
The trailer park next door may be an issue.
>>
>>530389266
not that anon but it's 10x less than anywhere else in the state
meaning it's an old dump or it is sandwiched between pig farms or it is hard to get to or it has a bunch of leins and easements or it has 12 dozen meth trailers parked on it. the fact that the map takes you to the middle of town and there's no satellite image showing you the actual location is a big no no

the second one is a patch of desert with no road going to it
>>
>>530391685
>a big no no
you just email or call them and ask for more info.
>>
>>530390757
I only have 6 right now 5 feeder steers of various ages/weights and one cow. I dont rotational geaze yet i just feed hay in the winter. Tough to take vacations because i have to have family come stay here and take care of the animals which is really just giving them water in the summertime

>>530390013
>20 acres
>multiple layers of fencing
>gates on timers
>automatic rotational grazing
>cameras and wifi

This retard has no idea wtf they are talking about. Fencing that would keep cows in, keep predators out, in double layers, is ex pensive as fuck. Even the fencing around the border of a 20 acre parcel is a fuck ton. Let's assume it's a square size. That's a square with 933ft long sides. minimum cost on that fence is like 3-10 dollars per linear foot. One line of cheap ass barbed wire fence around 20 acres is minimum 10k installed, unless you want that corpo guy to spend every waking hour hammering posts and running barbed wire. This won't keep out predators, keep calves in, etc.

Now start double layering fences multiple interior fences, setting up timed gates, etc. Who's going to clear the land? Cheap land is usually irregularly shaped, not cleared, uneven, has some sort of defect that isn't immediately obvious.

This is pie in the sky fantasy land musings from people who have no idea what the fuck actually happens on a farm. Land requires constant work to maintain. Something is always happening that requires attention. Animals require attention or they get injured, sick, escape, stolen or preyed upon.

ive considered a two strand electric fence around my property and then we wouldn't have to worry about much of anything coming or going out, but for now ive settled on a series of mesh fences linked together. if you get the ones that are a little under 3ft high they are quite a bit cheaper and do the job just fine. everything, cows, goats, chickens etc can be in there together and we just change the layout of the fence every month to open up fresh grass. its pretty simple.

I'm saving up for land. I will not respect any "building code" when I own a plot, and plan to do as I please there, forever.
>>
>>530391943
how many cattle would you need to raise to make this profitable? Are you growing them for sale or for consumption? Where I live you can do 1 cow per about 2 acres on rotational grazing. This is a high rain high productivity area.

Cattle farmers are having a fuck time of it right now because of foreign sourced beef and high input costs. With the aforementioned hypothetical setup you'd be out 10s of thousands of dollars and setup costs with a multi year break even price, assuming no loss

Would shock collars work on cows? Would make rotational grazing way easier.
Set up a couple transmitters to cover zones. Train the cows with low power "nudges" to let them know when it's time to move to the next zone.
Doesn't cover predators but some big dogs can take care of that.

My friend has 100 acres in the mountains and there's a herd of cattle that wanders around all over the mountain. Once a year, the owners round up the herd. Not sure how they find them all. The cows have ear tags. Maybe there are GPS trackers.

*much* heavy machinery, even the three tractors and attachments I already own are inadequate for how much I'd like to get done around the farm. I have to rely on my neighbour's baler at the end of the year that he himself bought for 60k used, and that's a very reasonable price for that piece of equipment.
