>>
>>530395470
Not really. You can't "safely" mine a small corridor like that. No commercial freighter is going to risk that or even allowed to risk that by his company.
Both Russia and Ukraine tried mining the black sea and it caused freighter hits on both sides, by their own mines. One floated towards Turkey and caused the strait to be closed for a while.

If Iran starts mining the strait, it's closed until after a long mine clearing operation. For everybody and everything.

>From a completely objective point of view, its the thing to do
It really isn't. Iran's best card to play is control over the strait. But that also includes the ability to lift the blockade in exchange for the aggressors withdrawing.
If they mine the strait, that card disappears. They no longer have the ability to just easily open it again, and the whole fucking world will hate them ten times more than they did so far.

It would be the act of a fanatic who wishes for death.

Mine warfare is serious business. Even if they only dropped 100 mines over an incredibly expansive area of sea, you'd still need mine warfare vessels to chart passages through them to guarantee tankers don't get hit. Insurance rates would go through the fucking roof or not be issued at all. The fear of mines is probably more potent than the mines themselves. And Iran could leave an obvious and open corridor on their side of the strait. A safe passage for Iran aligned ships - too close to Iran for enemy aligned ships to ever use.

>>
>>530396136
The historical precedence for this is the British Coastal Motor Boats of WWI & the Russian Intervention. These were 40 foot speed boats that could be armed with either a single torpedo or 4 naval mines. The idea was they could speed into an area at 40mph, lay mines under the cover of darkness, and retreat, and none would be the wiser. They successfully sunk or damaged several destroyers this way.

The speedboats of the Iranian Navy have always a serious threat.

The US is currently benefitting from the oil price shock. It sucks for you guys at the pump but the USD is soaring because the US is a net exporter with a huge strategic reserve.

Mining the strait is the equivalent of shitting yourself to deter prison rape. The straight is narrow enough that mine clearing is relatively easy and going to that step just demonstrates than Iran no longer has the means to interdict transit kinetically. It won't cause the long term damaged they hope for but it's certain to escalate the US response, weaken Iran's negotiating position and increase the likelihood of other affected countries joining in on the beatdown.

>The same people who bombed a school 'because the maps were old'?
A legit excuse if yoy see where it is located.
The girls school was one of the buildings in the base, it was a former HQ building until just a few years ago when they turned it into the girls school inexplicably.
The school still has the old sign out front saying it is military facility.
The only hint it was a school was they put a low fence up to help keep the kids from wandering into the rest of the military compound.
Old intel is a valid excuse in this case. At least take down the IRGC Navy sign from out front of the fucking school and this could have been avoided.

Mine the straight. Whatever. Every time Iran speaks, Pol shits. How is that even possible? Head in arse

What I wanna know is, how hard can it possibly be to detect mines? They're huge things floating near the surface of water. I can buy a fish finder for a couple hundred bucks that can spot fish only a few inches long. You're telling me they cant do the same with gigantic hunks of metal? It's not like you can even confuse them with something else or the seafloor, the strait is fucking deep, that's why they use it for shipping.

Are you a dumb? You are a dumb. What is the clean energy made out of? Fossil fuels. Plastics, lubricants, things get extracted out of the ground by fossils fuels. There's molds and castings. These are using energy and a lot of it is still from fossil fuels. Like shipping, transportation, flight.

There you are believing lies. The clean energy has nothing clean about it. No nothing. I know we import the planet for net zero. How many illegals has France added each one is using more consumption than where they came from. Any population increase. Well in the UK 90% of our builds are on flood plains and the greenbelt. Nothing not one single thing clean about it. It has increased consumption and usage on products with a diminishing lifetime all are far more resource heavy. Rare earth, metals, plastics and importantly services. How many more illegals does it take to turn a light bulb on. Never mind the increasing data farms.

Not that well, being a drone itself.

What Anon considers more problematic is that they crammed all minesweeping tech jinto one hull. Germans built minesweeping drones in the 1980s picrel which are basically a ship hull built around a hugeass solenoid magnetic field generator; they are deliberately kept light in electronics because interference, and after the 1991 Gulf War picked up some 20 Iraqi mines in a region declared as "fully cleared" by US.

Anon understands the rationale of packing as much sweeping tech as possible into one hull, but would rather wait and see how this performs under real-life conditions than assume that it works as advertised.
>>
>>530399481

Frigate and destroyers today sweep them. They do have a few nasty ones potentially for vessels that have rubbish sonar. Non military grade and lack the means to disable or detonate. It really isn't that scary. Problematic to some extents. It puts navy there. And depending on what that situation is completely under multiple attack. Drone missile even short range artillery systems. Plus whatever mines. But it's largely nonsense. Whatever. It was going to happen anyway. More of them are going to be mining their coastline.

When Iran speaks Pol suits. Utter filth
>>
>>530400534
So this implies the US doesn't know one way or the other if it's being mined, and it depends on Iran to de-mine if it is the case.

Shouldn't the US have some aviation over the strait looking for mine-laying boats or subs?

A tanker would find it hard to dodge anything that's moving faster than 5 knots if that "anything" tries to bullseye the tanker.

Israel will unfortunately still win; iran is just the hard level of their anti-arab and islamic conqust. Iraq was easy, libya too. Syria was moderate. This is a test of their power, turkey will be a bonus

>The USA, Russia and China can refine that oil easily.
If you believe Venezuelan oil can be "easily" refined, you are a very courageous man.

Ever been to the La Brea pits in LA?

This is the kind of stuff that passes as "oil" in Venezuela. Literally the same gunk.

Refining that shit is not just not easy, it is also so damaging to the refining equipment that Venezuelan "oil" is only used to pave roads if you have access to some light sweet crude.

The average Venezuelan oil is like the center one in picrel. It doesn't even flow properly, you can pick it up as a lump using a swizzle stick.

The entire insurance business is about avoiding risk, so you can actually skim interest off the special-purpose saving accounts people deposit with you.

You are correct about Venezuelan oil, nut you require one more important detail.

The U.S dollar is, at this point, COMPLETELY dependant on the artificial value given to it.
How is this "value" achieved?
By creating demand.
How?
By ensuring that everywhere in the world, you MUST purchase U.S dollars in order to buy oil.
Venezuela has enough "bunker shit" in the ground to put the global "reserve currency" into the dirt, if other powers forego the energy intensity of refinement, just do that they can purchase it with their own, real currencies.
China in particular were moving in to take over oil fields that western companies were ordered to vacate to affect sanctions on the country.

America did what was necessary for it's survival, and it did it with mere months to spare.
Unfortunately, It's going to have a much harder time against the second last country in the world still refusing to allow a Rothschild central bank to control it's currency.

Maybe they are mining the straights now so they can zerg rush into globohomos and explode themselves?

According to Anon's notes, there should be about 70 million straights in Iran.

Assuming a straight suicide bomber can kill 5 globohomos, that would give the Islamic Republic a kill potential of 350 million globohomos.

This is enough to make Trump and Netanyahu realize that they are all on the same side here.

>Demining operation by itself will take months at least.
Demining the Kuwaiti nearshore waters in 1991 took some 10 weeks, but that was after combat ended (i.e. they could do it at leisure), and involved waters about half as deep as the Strait (25-30 meters vs 40-70 meters) and with marginal currents.

And they had 9 nations contributing a total of about 40 dedicated minesweepers, plus a support fleet up to and including Iwo Jima class AAS.
