LONDON, March 10 (Reuters) - The U.S. Navy has refused near-daily requests from the shipping industry for military escorts through the Strait of Hormuz since the start of the war on Iran, saying the risk of attacks is too high for now, according to sources familiar with the matter.

What good does that do anyway? Can these navy shoot down missiles and drones before they hit the commercial ship?
>>

No.
They have to take the strait through force. They have no choice at this point.
Maybe with submarines, the water is like 300 feet deep. Not sure how they're going to do it.

This guy https://www.youtube.com/@wgowshipping keeps calling for the US to escort ships and provide US government backed insurance. He seems to be an expert, but there seem to be huge problems with this plan, for starters that a liability stretching into many billions would require congressional authorization presumably to be ironclad (shipowners aren't going to take Trump at his word the US is good for it), plus there are undersea drones it's unlikely a US warship could be anything to protect a tanker from.

How will subs help exactly? Drones and missiles are on the surface/air. Maybe I don't understand. They'd have to take all drone and missile launch sites for hundreds of miles or more.

Couldn't you do this, but on a whole tanker?

They can launch assets that blow up the position that the Iranians launch from.
They can't offer rescue or anything after your ship gets a hole in it since that'd put the vessels in actual danger, but your sacrifice will not be in vain.

No.
The drones they're using are different than the Ukraine war $20 temu with mortars.
These are more like advanced guided bombs, they'd punch through that mesh before detonation.

Missile platforms I get, at least any stationary ones. But shaheeds can be launched from a truck driving at speed. If there's a cave near a mile long strip of semi-level ground within [however many miles] of the coast that a truck can appear from and disappear back to within 5 minutes, is a Navy ship going to be able to effectively target that?

Sincere questions I'm not trying to be an ass.

I don't know that's why i said I didn't have a clue. But there has to be some kind of anti-mine platform, or there will be now lol
Maybe a sub could target the mines from underneath the surface where it can't be drone struck. But that also runs the risk of losing a nuclear sub, which pretty much all subs in the US are to my understanding. And if they lose one there it will be taken and disassembled by Iranians.

why won't they? Iran's navy is destroyed

Their current strategy (and the same one that failed in Yemen for a year) is having a bunch of drones patrolling near the coast 24/7 and early warning satellites pointed at the nation.

Even if they only pick up on 1 in 10 launches they'll slowly whittle them down, but realistically it's going to be impotently destroying any vehicle driving in a generalized area hoping that the problem just ends.

We really can't stop this like we've been able to destroy about 50%~ of their SCUD launchers, at best we can slow it down.

BTW protip for anyone day-trading oil on the high volatility. Something I've noticed over the past two weeks: whenever the US market is open the price trends down because rah-rah and American traders actually believe Trump and believe the US has things under control, whenever the US market isn't open prices go up as the rest of the world is in panic mode. You can make lots of money just trading on this.

After starting this mess, they surely should feel responsibility to deal with its consequences. This means the US Navy is either too weak or too cowardly.

No. The ideal is to form a wall blocking any attacks, which is idiotic
