Today, President of Madagascar Michael Randrianirina ordered the disbandment of PM Herintsalama Rajaonarivelo's government, state spokesman Harilaumaranto Rahajaminasoina announced.

While no official reason was given, controversy has arose over Rajaonarivelo's ties to tycoon Ramanantsoanda Ratsiranahoranina, accused of unfairly siphoning Madagascar's onshore oil wealth.

Until a new cabinet is formed, Deputy PM Ravalomanana Rajaonarimampianina will take charge of the government.

However, Defence Minister Razakandanisa Rakotosararimanana will remain in office, at a time when the country is still reeling from security issues following the 2025 coup.
