>people say groceries are too expensive
>people cannot afford to eat, have to choose cheap options
>go to grocery store
>minimum 20$ for a steak, a roast is 50$+
>everything really is more expensive than it was just before covid, some items almost 2x the price

How is this even possible? If no one is purchasing these items, how can the price remain so high? Wouldn't this lead to waste, and so the grocery retailer would have no choice but to lower prices because the alternative is a complete loss on all the items they ordered and then had to throw away?

inflation. your currency got diluted by gov spending
>>
>>530922133
The government printed more dollars, and the effect is that dollars are worth less. The power of money is related to its scarcity but it's value is also made fluid by inflation and deflation as well as external economic factors. They are symbols, what matters is how much you have currently and what you can give it up for.
>>
>>530922133
It's not that no one is purchasing them, it's that fewer people are purchasing them. The average person can't afford it. But people earning 100k+ a year can afford it.
>>
The money you earn from working is less value than the free money they get from your taxes.

You need to be taxcreditmaxxing and on disability so your rent is paid, or have some scheme like disability or a girlfriend whos "disabled" who also looks after your "disabled" child so she can double tax credit Maxx.

Tldr honesty and hard work are a meme,
Also if you arent inheriting property just dont help your parents or grandparents because owning a house pre 2009 is such a wealth discrepancy that its insane to think people who did that pay 1/4 as much as people who are renting or but the same house in post covid money.

How does that keep grocery prices high though? I get that inflation means less value of the dollar, and so more dollars are need = higher price

Still, if no one buys these highly priced items, that means the grocer has to throw them away and they lose all the money they spent to receive those products. Wouldn't, at the least, minimum profits make more sense than complete loss?

>cost of gas/power goes up cause Iran.
>doesnt understand the MARKET CORRECTS.
>prices at the store now reflect the increased cost of transportation and energy cost to "get it there".
>this all could have been avoided by building multiple pipelines and not putting our refinery capacity in Saint John NB, when the oil is on the other side of the country in Alberta.

>we are going to get absolutely fucked because of our refusal to construct additional pipelines.
>the prices rise.
>>
>>530923103
Are there really enough people purchasing them to cover losses, though? Here in Canada, any related discussion has 90% of people complaining about the high prices and how they can't afford to eat beef anymore etc.

I guess the total sales for all items may cover all losses in general though, so the bottom line could still be profitable even with excess waste on the more expensive items. I feel like it would still make sense to tax minimum loss/small margin profits over total losses on any items

Nah, you'll just see a switch to ACME frozen meat and ACME 20 block steaks that are cut with a band saw, rinsed off and then packaged and if you chew them wrong they explode your teeth.
It may become dangerous to not eat pork burnt,
Plus increased fines and punishment for illegal hunting, even though at 250k and all your shit, deerjacking is one of the most harshly punished crimes in canada, they will set examples.
Hamburger will contain bugs and sawdust, or that filler that makes the grease look like cancer cells.

>cant afford food.

Back in the 90s I would be beaten for not finishing whats on my plate, if you waste food in the year 2026 it should be immediately lined up against a wall.

I dont care.

>$50 for a roast
High af, but even then lets say that is a 5 lbs roast. A pound of meat a day and then fill out the rest of your diet with fresh vegetables with bread and you are looking at $12 a day for food. a 5lbs sack of flour is gonna run you ~$2.50 and contains 18 cups of flour. That is gonna make you 9 1lb loafs of bread. Broccoli, carrots, squash, zuccinni, onions, basically whatever you want are all cheap af and taste delicious when roasted with just a sprinkle of salt. Sunday you bake a loaf of bread and then roast the beef and veggies. After you are done eating your Sunday dinner you can divide up the meat and veggies for four more days meals. Then you just have to bake a fresh 1lb loaf of bread each morning and you are good to go. 1lb of bread, a 1lb of meat, and a whole mess of veggies can be eaten throughout the day as a series of smaller meals or one gluttonous feast.

Personally I wouldn't pay more than $7/lb for eye of round roast even with the current inflation.

>he thinks we can get a 5lbs sack of flour for $2.50

It's all fake
Literally the key is to stop accepting fiat dollars but no one will do it.
If money stops having value the government has nothing but zogbots to keep the people under control.

Anon, its 2026.

Normies dont know how to peel potatoes, or that you can just....not. and mash them. Or quarter them and roast them, put them in a stew, ect ect. They just buy bags of frozen french fries or cubed hash browns.

Fifty bucks for a roast hurts, but it's still a relatively a good deal when you consider that it'll yield at least a few highly nutritious meals. I started getting beef suet from the butcher at $2/lb and render tallow from it... works-out to be about as much per weight unit as butter these days. I've also swallowed my pride and started going to the food bank on occasion to keep my pantry stocked. Making bread and soups from scratch is both frugal and satisfying. I'm middle-aged and don't have kids so I needn't worry too much... yet!

I've been living off chicken and pork for most of my protein, the only beef I really eat now is ground beef or cheaper cuts of steak when sales are on.

I wonder how the families are doing it. Lets say you get 5 meals from your 5 lbs roast (even then, feeding an entire family off one pound of meat is sad), that's at least 50$ every 5 days. That's 300 dollars a month on top of the price of everything else. Poor bastards.

I literally bought one on Saturday for $2.49. Ah, it's a currency conversion thing. That is 3.42 loonies

Please don't make me lose what little faith I have left in your people.

>>530923130
No one has to throw anything away you retard. Stores restock products based on demand. High demand? Buy more. Low demand? Buy less.
>>
>>530924582
Unfortunately it was nearly 6$ for a 5 lbs bag of flour last time I was at the grocery store.
>>
>>530924697
jfc, I thought Alberta produced as much wheat as Montana did? Why is your flour so overpriced?

>>530924324
Suet is good eating. I use it as shortening in my pastry crust. If you don't mind eating offal, you can really strech your bucks and get your protiens in a delicious form by baking meatpies loaded with organ meat like liver and kidneys.
>>
>>530924664
Sure, but even then I am regularly seeing rotting meat being put on clearance and still no one buying them.
>>
>>530922133
Just eat lentils. Much cheaper.

This. If your parents or grandparents are asking for help or money and offering nothing in return you need to pillowmaxxx.

Wheat board.

I tried and got fucked over,

Basically poor is a mentality, and if you are doing good your expected to help people who just fuck around and dont do anything.

Just dont, look after yourself.
Alot of boomers and shitty parents will pick a kid and set them up for failure so their best shot at life post 40 is to look after them and hope fuck fuck they dony give it to charity or hold it over your head and make you run once your past the point where you "could" turn your life around.

Ive seen how people will sit next too, cover for, make excuses and "choose" not to see kids being preyed on because they think they have something to gain "when he dies"

Its the ultimate sociopathpill. You can prey on people, and if normies think they have something to gain from you, they will actively cover for you.
Stanford prison experiment taken to its logical conclusion has interesting implications on the minds of normies, not counting 70% of people will obey if you have a commanding presence.

>SAAR SAAR DO NOT EAT THE COW SAAR IS SACRED
>DA POO CURES EVERY DISEASE SAAR
>EAT LENTILS INSTEAD YOU BLOODY BENCHOD BASTARD

>>530925395
Actually I just checked the wheat production of both Montana and Alberta since I have looked at the numbers in over a decade and I don't know what the fuck happened but Alberta's production fell off a cliff and Montana's production skyrocketed. Also the massive drop off in Albertan wheat production coincides almost exactly with control of the Wheat Board being bought out by the Saudi government in 2015. The increased Montana production seems tied to exporting our wheat to Canada to cover the gap in your own falling production quotas.

Why the fuck did your government think that it was a good idea to hand control of your staple grain production to a foreign government? This is a top ten anime betrayal on tier with Tim Horton's being sold to a Brazilian food conglomerate.
>>
>>530925370
Another huge thing not alot of people in canada recognize is that when boomers die you have to pay like 40g to transfer the property or it gets forced into sale to cover "muh estate"

Before you even raise a fucking finger to help these people, have everything changed over to your name, and make them disclose and reverse mortgages or unpaid property taxes, so like the vast majority of normies dont get fucked out of a house and end up with a 10-15k payout split between every greedy fuck who claimed a stake in the house that (you) would have gotten in exchange for helping them.

Saw my homie get fucked out of a house and it went to sale because his parents are narcissistic as fuck, after he did 95% of the caring for them.
Alot of old folks are straight up going to be accidentally on purpose pushed down flights of stairs and then "im trying to help you" and move them around a bunch and fuck them up more versus calling medical by their shithead narc kids that see them as a quick buck and "not having to look after them"

Also, never help a hoarder.

Rapeseed, (Canola) and Wheat politics are big business in AB/SK.

Basically saar we have the trains and the grain elevators but have done the maxing of the capacity and need to build dedicated wheat only trains saar because the bottleneck of having one railroad split between oil, wheat, and passenger is starting to catch up with the idea of having a nation or even being able to expand and making it so we couldn't, even if we wanted too expand our market share, soft caping us out and making us forced to do whatever America isnt.

instead of buying groceries just get roast beef, cheese, and a nice baguette. it will cost you less and you will enjoy it more

>Wouldn't this lead to waste
corporations and the working populace would (and already do) gleefully trash edible food instead of providing it to the needy

The price of items are going down, but the amount of currency is going up way faster.
Measure everything in physical silver ounces and so many trends interesting start to emerge.
