Property tax is how municipalities do things. Removing a large portion of property tax would strain a system thats already strained due to boomers. Another aspect is that the entire Canadian economy is propped up by the housing market and foreign investment. A large portion of people's retirement relies on their home value increasing. Then you have the NIMBY individuals. That being said, I still think housing needs to dramatically increase despite those challenges. More investment opportunities need to be made for Canadians in Canadian projects that will gaurentee a ROI rather than rely on the housing market, which is a human necessity in my opinion.
