It's funny how, if you imagine he's acting on the orders of the Kremlin, every single action he takes makes perfect sense. Even supporting Ukraine makes sense, because his primary purpose with that war is not to take Ukraine. His purpose is to drive a wedge between the US and Europe that cannot be mended within a generation. The only things he does that does not work in favour of Russia are inconsequential things that Russia is fine with losing anyway. You'll notice that Russia is entirely disinterested in negotiation, even when the US is supposedly sticking it to them.
