Later Amazon hurt Wal Mart some but not enough to shut them down.

The honest answer is niggers.Once you started getting groups of niggers walking around the mall, white people stopped going. They stopped dropping their teenagers off to hang out there. White people have money to buy things, which is what stores in the mall need to attract, and niggers don't.There's a local mall to me (Raleigh) and there was a gang shooting on opening night. There were violent incidents there all the time. I can see why grocery stores would want this, you dont want customers to walk past a butcher to get to your store, etc. Often times grocery stores will build entirely new buildings rather than occupy a vacant storefront so they never end up in malls. Grocery stores would be good for malls but malls are probably not good for grocery stores.

Let me share some quick stats so you can get the idea.A mall cart at my local mall (Raleigh) costs $2800 per month. These are small and you will be limited in what you can sell. If you sell incense then you can only sell incense and incense accessories, and it all has to be approved by the mall management.A mall kiosk, which is slightly bigger, runs $5000. You generally have to bring your own kiosk ($10,000+) and go through city permits for months before you can even open. The mall limits what you can sell there. More space than a cart, nowhere near what an in-line store has.A mall store, like FYE or Gamestop or Camelot Music, is 10-15k per month. There's less limitations on what you can sell, but you're still limited to related product categories. If there's a Gamestop in the mall then they probably won't let you open a retro gaming store.Now let's go to any strip mall in the city. These run $10 per square foot PER YEAR. So a 1000 square foot store in a strip mall is $10000 PER YEAR. Broken down it comes out to $833 per month. Zero limitations on what you can sell. Open and close whenever you want. No fines for opening late or closing early.Which one would you choose? The mall used to command higher prices because they provided more traffic. That's changed, but the prices remain the same. At this point, malls should be offering rent so low that it would be impossible to not open. once you've been to one mall once, that's it, that's the experience. exact same stores in every mall for decades with the same stuff. you're not really going to browse around recreationally or see what's new because you already know exactly what's there. maybe if they set aside a percentage of stores for small local quirky fun shops that would naturally have a high turnover rate then there'd be something new worth checking out the mall now and again. the mall is ok for clothes shopping though, since maybe you want to try stuff on, cant do that online, and theres multiple shops under one roof, makes sense to go to the mall for that.they should convert the malls to indoor red light districts.
