Consumerism is a complete myth the amount of production for consumer goods vs the actual demand are so vastly different. If people could really keep up with consumption Amazon wouldn't be needed since everything would fly off shelves constantly, yet most of the trade exists in either warehouses or on balance sheets getting treated as shifting losses. It feels like they're being subsidized more than actually producing anything relevant, demand itself has always been a terrible metric to work with. Oil has immense supply and near unlimited demand for instance.
