It was exclusively a financial loss in the sense that, while the military budget was used to do, well, military-things, it didn't amount to anything that benefitted the country either. Other anon is acknowledging that fact, while you on the other hand are trying to make it sound like the US... lost territory or an ally or something of, y'know, actual long-term value by going to war in Afghanistan, and then pulling out. The only thing we lost was... military budget money being spent... on the military it was meant for. Realistically, the only actual loss the US faced was the poor few soldiers who died over there. The country itself is objectively unaffected in every way.
