I remember ~15 years ago a friend making his desertetion on the "metals of the future" and he was raving on and on about how Canada had huge deposits of various alloys that could ,after processing, yield insane amounts of wolframium amongst other metals. >>531277136the canadian deposits are in bumfuck nowhere in the frozen tundra. there is also not just tungsten, its usually inbedded as a salt in a rock in varying density and depending on that extraction it can be either cheap or expensive to mine. also canada probably has no downstream industry to work the tungsten, while china (and austria) has.but we have a similar problem, there are multiple tungsten deposits in austria, but only in one site is it economically viable to mine it.these metals of the future thing got mostly crushed by china mining so much and so cheap that no one else can compete.
