Almost every child born in America after 2005 has grown up exclusively with a smartphone first before any toy.There's no reason to make toys anymore, and they're all from China, and distributors increasingly can't justify importing them when manufacturing prices are only going up. This is mostly due to China banning plastic waste and western countries regulating plastic now, so cheap plastic toys are hard to make and those that are tend to be big branded items. Even then, there's only two toy companies left (Hasbro and Mattel) both owned by Blackrock. There are only three toy retailers left: Walmart, Amazon and Target in that order. Also, most states now regulate toys be "safe" unless they are explicitly marked as 10 and up, which requires product testing that most companies don't want to do. You can see this change with Tyco's model trains, with more modern HO variants, while being completely functional HO trains, are designed with toy/child safety in mind and lack sharp parts or detachable swallowable parts. Ironically, these are rare now because nobody bought them.Consequently the market is completely monopolized, there is no new competition allowed by the government, by retailers, or by the banks. Consumers themselves have moved on and are spending money on videogames, including children. On all levels, it's suffocating to death.
The only area where toys are NOT dying are niche things like model trains or japanese figurines, because they are so small they do not attract big jewish investment money, they don't sell their products at big retailers, and their stuff is technically for adults so toy laws don't affect them. Also, 3D printing is big here and most companies make models that work with 3D printed objects, which is usually not the case with modern (post 90s) toys.pic rel, a non-cucked Tyco model train set from JCPenny. But again even the cucked ones are still HO scale and compatible with regular sets. Most modern toys don't do this, you'll especially notice this with ANY thomas & friends stuff which is deliberately made to be NOT compatible with previous generations.
Another thing: Toys were often made of die cast metal then. A lot of it. Heavy enough to throw at your sister or bust a window. This stopped because plastic is cheaper, and if you notice most HW and Matchbox cars are much lighter than they used to be. Besides using less material, this also greatly reduces shipping costs and makes regulators (the government) happy. Again, no sharp toys for kids under 10.Pic related was from 1983. It wouldn't happen today because nobody besides losers likes trains in the first place, trains do not fit well within a larger superhero brand strategy like Marvel, and it's also not Marvel in the first place. If you want to get very depressed go into any toy aisle or toy dept and count the ratio of Marvel branded stuff vs non-Marvel stuff. It'll rub out to about 30-60% Marvel depending on the size of the store. Everything else is being quietly sunsetted, is already dead, or is licensed out to other companies that don't sell at Walmart/Target.Ironically, as a result of this Barnes & Noble, Dollar Tree and Dollar General are the only genuine toy stores left.
Remember these? Some of them were higher build quality than actual scale model trains they were sold next to. Though, being fair to thomas they've maintained their quality much better as an independent brand, even if none of the track is compatible.
