All he's accused of is 1. having an Israeli father and a strong Jewish identity, 2. visiting Israel a handful of times, and 3. making a beat tape entitled Israeli Salad that uses samples from Israeli music. He's not accused of inciting violence against Palestinians, stealing their land, demolishing their homes, destroying their olive trees, or torturing them in Israeli prisons. So why is he receiving backlash? Because any association with anything related to Israel is morally implicating to the point at which somebody should be driven out of public life. This issue operates at a purely social level. It's not like Al violated International Law by making that beat tape. It's purely about what social associations are or aren't acceptable according to the morality of the BDS Movement. So because it operates on a purely social level, it is a kind of consummately anarchist moral panic.
