I'm becoming partial to orthodox Christianity but it seems so deeply connected to each country in Eastern Europe it belongs to that it wouldn't make sense for a Westerner to be Orthodox, as each orthodox church is really a nationalist institution and to be Orthodox you'd have to found your own church. Does a church with Orthodox views on the church but Catholic tradition, iconography and sin exist? Because that would be the perfect Church. Protestantism on the other hand besides Lutheranism seems like cancer

It's the most traditional one that refused to change its traditions or custom through time. As for which church, I assume Melbourne or Sydney has either a Russian Orthodox Church Abroad or a Constantinople Patriarchate church somewhere, and obviously you can't join a church without going to one, so just pick whichever is more convinient. I can at least help you with the basics.You have to understand that orthodox church is one church, because a church is unified by faith which is the truth revealed through holy spirit. Each physical jurisdiction is specifically a jurisdiction created for a nation which is why they are nationalistic, because that was the church structure and it makes the most sense to deify each imagery and tradition in each nation. Things are moving in a direction where several churches are trying to create branches to be more accommodating for nation's that have overlapping jurisdictions and no autpcephaly. But at the moment it isn't a solved issue because until recently the Latins wouldn't allow orthodoxy to even spread in the west through force, so we are only now figuring out how to accommodate those lands.What area are you in Australia roughly, I can try to look up churches around your region. For example antiochian and Romanian churches allegedly tend to be better for foreigners.
