If Europe had any semblance of integrity they would be thanking Donald for incentivizing a quicker transition to zero fossil fuels. The fact that gas is so expensive is a great boon to the green climate aware crowd (thr only objectively correct and morally superior political ideology) . Europe will achieve economic supremacy and sovereignty via ecological harmony. Every essential store in my area is a minimum of 5-6 miles away, and this is about the least bike-friendly area in the state; long steep hills, zero bike lanes, and heavy fast-moving traffic with extremely bad drivers. Cycling on the nearby main road is a brush with death, every time. It’d be a dream to live in some quaint European city and having everything—work, groceries, services, social places etc.—be within a mile or two from home, but I’m living in suburban-rural America. I love cycling for exercise though.
