Name even one way the janky kit /diy/'d E-Bike isn't the most freedom vehicle available in North America>requires no license>can lane filter/split lane, can go on sidewalk, can go on road, can go on trail, can go literally anywhere legally>goes fast enough to get you where you gotta go>only requires electricity to fuel it, which you can produce at home if you really want>has actually factually better handling characteristics than most gas(OPEC)-powered vehicles
its illegal and dangerous

Did that while I didn't have a drivers license and was too broke to pay the instructor let alone buy a car, that was 3 years ago now.1500 Watt controller with a range of around 30Kmh at average speed of 50kmh to keep up with city traffic, top speed of 65kmh. >>532245324Actually based, but inconvenient because boomers took this stuff for granted and stopped selling them, allowing the chinese to saturate the market. however shipping times and poorly translated drawings/manuals still cause issues, and ngl i have one of those kits on order right now to make my e-bike into a bad hybrid
>>532244371>stolen by nigger>splattered by carpick one
This crackhead tier shit ran off two 36V Bird 3 Scooter batteries that were "tactically acquired" off the "3 am police auction" ifykyk. Run them in series you get double the voltage allowing a higher top speed. This madmax setup worked for me for around 6 months until winter time until the bolt of the motor finally gave way. Almost died on it a couple of times by almost getting run over or crashing, as a man should when he rides a diy unregistered unsatisfied motorcycle to work.>>532245351I always road it dressed in orange or ragged work cloths to look like a methhead from a distance. >>532244884This is why gas motor kits are better. Even with how expensive gas is now you can fill the tank for a dollar or two and get 90 miles on a tank.

>>532245674Yeah the whole kit was only 100 bucks a year ago and now it's doubled, plus the better quality 4 stroke kits are harder to get now too. I've used 2 strokes too but they are a huge pain in the ass and are terrible for commuting, they'll make you smell like oil, you have to push start them, they're prone to seizing if you don't mix the gas/oil right and they're way louder.
>>532244371That’s cool and all except you still look like a total dork. >>532245876i will console myself by telling you the china doll engine i ordered was only about 170 leafbux after shipping (so realistically ACTUALLY maybe 120-150 usd after purchasing power/shipping/etc?) and probably it will arrive broken. still, i have the about 200$ "kit" that was a used ebike i did incremental upgrades on by simply knowing how to solder and later clean electronics properly>they'll make you smell like oil, you have to push start them, they're prone to seizing if you don't mix the gas/oil right and they're way louder.and ebikes you have to get going before you get any torque out of them after overcoming static friction and gimbal lock, they're prone to over-or-under-current-or-voltage if it's not a clear day in california, and are sensitive to having a "wrong" battery that doesnt have a mangement system that constantly supplies a very precise voltage and amperage. vehicles suck ass to get going, and that's why they're so much fun and make you feel so free once you do. >>532246102>That’s cool and all except you still look like a total dork.good but your idea and wants are based too, and our >USE CASES are simply different but equally psychotic. normies should have never been allowed to drive

If that is your case you were using a shitty setup. My 1500 Watt controller with rental scooter batteries in series at 72v max had instant torque and would accelerate faster that the city cars next two me from a dead stop. All that on a chinkshit setup with the controller costing me 50 CAD on Aliexpress. This was actually a problem for me so I had to tweak the settings to LOWER torque/acceleration from dead stop.

>>532246634>If that is your case you were using a shitty setup.uh i AM using a shitty setup. it's some over-spec'd infinite wattage motor (because really most motors dont care about power in until they catch fire) but the controller is 13a max at 36v. she is anemic and yet still fun and practical (though as posted i desire more power and have ordered a legit gas engine to further skirt licensing and registration laws)thought of just buying a New Emmo or Evoque but for like 8 grand at that point i actually may as well just get a pit bike

>>532246771You shouldn't be preaching it as gospel that all ebikes are like that, people who never seen a DIY one will believe it. I read you also had a kit. I'll share mine too, paid a guy 200 bucks plus one "domesticated" bird 3 scooter for the bike with a 36v yard works battery, FBM trade. That yard works battery barely got me 7km to work one way, too slow. I acquired one bird battery, then decided I want more speed so i got one more and a 72v controller to achieve pic rel. Granted my setup was more expensive and if I was actually paying for the batteries it would have ended up being 600-800 bucks for them, sold them off on FBM 2 years later for like 400 when I sold it for 600. Are you building a hybrid gas and electric setup on yours? I saw a few good setups on aliexpress and alibaba. I would recommend getting a bomber clone bike.
>>532247305Consider for a moment that because of said drunks, it is harder than ever to get a license because of graduated licensing systems, reducing number of available demerits, and exorbitantly priced insurance for new drivers. Drivers with DUIs suffer none of these problems -- they can renew freely after probation, a re-instated license gets max points back to spend, and they are considered mature drivers. DUI riders will get caught and die naturally in crashes, but new drivers can get an e-bike (or gas moped) and tool around safely under current structures.>>532247404>You shouldn't be preaching it as gospel that all ebikes are like that, i wasnt, i was saying that my personal one is incredibly anemic and yet still good. imagine an actually properly powered e-bike, it it would be awesomethoughbeit>with a 36v yard works battery, your fault for not paying attention to capacity and voltage sag>I acquired one bird battery, then decided I want more speed so i got one more and a 72v controller to achieve pic rel.exactly my point: you learned what the fuck is up through experience and subsequent research and Ascended.>Are you building a hybrid gas and electric setup on yours? yea the only step left is a higher power controller, maybe more batteries. i thought of just throwing a quad of motorcycle SLA/AGM batteries in a pair of ammo can panniers since data sheets tell me they would perform better for the cold canadian climate (lithium and its derivatives like LiFePO4 would be better for weight but less reliable for my all-season riding) but for the weight and cost I figured I could dump some money on some china doll engine and see how that works out for now. worst case, I throw the engine on a different frame I have lying around. and both fit in my bug hive leaf igloo apartment with ample space for service for eitherand 1ce more I did consider an Emmo or Evoque, but at MSRP may as well get a Vespa
>>532244371E-bikes are fuckin' great. Unfortunately, F-150 drivers think it's funny to run down bikers. The bicyclist doesn't win in that equation.
>>532244371Just buy a regular e-bike, you're not really saving any money with DIY kits. It will be a nigger-rigged abomination with an easily stealable battery

>>532247935Yeah. Seattle had Rad Bikes, though they ran into serious financial problems. Just about any brand's okay these days.
THAT is what i am getting at. the electric or gas conversion bicycle is the peak freedom machine. with a vehicle you built from parts yourself, maintained by you alone, made of standardized and easily manufactured trash that can be infinitely bodged together as per your whims and level of competence, you truly can go anywhere you want to go and can go. "may go" is a spook
>>532247935"regular e-bikes" are unmaintainable trash full of proprietary parts, non standard wheel sizes, and even the frame is donezo once the battery is actually dead because half of the structural integrity of the thing is from the battery casing (which is tap/press-fit nonsense)
>>532248040The only catch is older people or those with mobility and balance problems. In that case, you're probably better off with a very basic car or go-cart. Some of the capsule-style enclosed bikes are close, but comfort does matter.t. older parents, no fuckin' way I'm selling them on ebikes.
>>532248150>unmaintainable trash full of proprietary partsAs if you're getting spares for your HonKiGwaiLo Amazon special ebike kit, give me a break. >>532247794Ngl thats a cool project and I want one myself now. I do agree that the hybrid system would give you the best of both worlds here, not just using registration loopholes. >>532248377>As if you're getting spares for your HonKiGwaiLo Amazon special ebike kit,the controller is effectively proprietary but the motor is just a bunch of coils and sensors and can be driven sensor-less, it just requires you not be a retard when starting it and not be a retard and have actual throttle control while driving if it starts to stutter. also DC versions of these bikes exist and are straight up just a DC motor, power supply (bigass battery) and cheaper alternative to a 1kw transistor (still, you can just pay 300$ for the transistor or 300$ for the marginally maintainable controller)even if you want something inbetween, single-phase AC motor drivers are a thing and single-phase AC motors only give as much of a fuck about gimbal lock as brushed DC motors do
>>532248022rad is fucking terrible, a diy bike is way better than rad powerbike. way over priced junk with terrible customer service. fuck them.
>>532248506>Don't buy anything from Emmo, I worked on a bike I got to flip on fbm, believe me everything about it is shit and plastic.fair but a neighbor of mine has an emmo sit-down scooter (not a shitty Razer, like a vespa knockoff type) and >its slow as fuck>but it looks fucking gud and is as fast as i already am anyway, but has "cargo space"but for the gorillionth time, at MSRP, may as well get a gas scooter, and otherwise, may as well carry on with my "750w" motor driven by something that gives up and overheats at more like 400 and develops about as much speed as a chainsaw at half the torque
>>532245562i did this!, then realized i don't know how to ride a bike, so i cucked out because i don't want to crack my skull open.
>>532248742Literally just don't be a pussy. Interacting regularly with cagie traffic will give you the fury necessary to realize that there are way more dangerous things out there than your own lack of skill, so you better make up for it (and you can make up for it very quickly)
>>532248563Go ahead and keep tinkering with your chinese garbage, you'll never have the range and reliability and waterproofness and security of a factory ebike with torque sensing pedal assist. You're just a crackhead who only rides to the gas station and back anyways so it's not like it would make much of a difference anywaysThis isn't even elitism, you're spending just as much if not more on an inferior product because you have an autistic need to see wires dangling off of a shitty old Walmart bike you've had parked behind your shed for the last 10 years
>>532248844>Go ahead and keep tinkering with your chinese garbageI will. it's a lot of fun despite how much I will complain about it, and that I will complain about maintenance and do it anyway is proof that it is maintenance worth doing>pedal assisti know you're trolling but yuck. if i want the motor to deliver power i want to decide when that happens. throttle lever or no assist at all. it's not a bicycle anymore, it's a bad motorcycle the city is too stupid to track
>>532247935>Just buy a regular e-bike, you're not really saving any money with DIY kitsi bought the rad city 5 for $1400 and it started giving me problems fairly quickly. and i had to get replacement parts only through rad power bike because they used proprietary connectors. a control box from rad was $99 and was even loaded with all kinds of features like speed limitors and would even brake the bike coasting down hill to keep it under 30mph. a control box from amazon without any safety features is $30. the kits are for sure better, especially when you use this (picrel) bigger battery

>>532244884>Can’t ride during bad weatherbtw i made it through an entire east coast winter on my shitty ebike and i only had to swap out the brakes like 4 times, adjust the derailleur monthly, my lights didn't last one evening, even my disc brakes i bought halfway through got contaminated with salt and stopped working right, i broke 5 spokes, had to replace the whole front wheel, had to re-lace the rear wheel, and had several random flats. also i did eventually give up and replace the entire frame, swapping every working part to some shit i found on fb marketplace because the original frame started to creak and wobble worryingly, being a hardtail with a front suspension fork that failed (would lock or have no rebound below -5*C)literally the electric drivetrain is the ONLY thing that survived an entire winter of daily riding without serious maintenance. the controller, battery, and motor stayed champs. low power etherweight champs, but champs nonetheless. in about 5 months the only original part set is the motor and controller. i've even had to replace wiring. even the pannier i had to hold the battery straight up shore off pretty recently and is now held in place with some u-bolts i had lying around. the chinks do not fuck around when it comes to power electronics >>532250307just get a kit. 90% of those full e-bikes are just curated parts from various OEMs. just dont get memed on and realize that the controller is the most important part. batteries are swappable and motors don't care about anything, but the controller will hard limit your power based on its own safety requirements. not safety like nanny state, safety like it not melting under load. unsurprisingly if you do real shopping and try to vet suppliers you'll find that the controller is the one thing that is consistent in price for performance and is probably the lowest margin subsystem because consoomers sleep on it so hard and only manufacturers/distributors really bother caring

>>532254141hub motors are the most common kind and it literally is as easy as just putting a new wheel on. most of these kits come with the wheel pre-installed, you dont even learn how to lace or true a wheel, it comes as one unit in bubble wrap. i guess you have to find a place for the throttle but even that is just take off your existing handlebar comfy handle, put on the throttle, tighten one(1) bolt, and you dont even have to put the comfy handle back on if youre a huge niggersome units even incoporate the controller into the wheel so it is literally just finding a place for the battery, and even that is easy some manufacturers offer a specialized pannier for a sealed battery unithttps://goldenmotor.bike/collections/internal-controller

>>532244371What’s the EMF off of those electric motors and the battery? It’s not as bad as the faraday cage literal microwave in the Tesla, but that can’t be good for your testicles/semen production. I hate electric cars and I’m an electrician with the most to gain. You do you though
>>532245191looks like shit you handicapped retard, controller not in a watertight housing, cables flapping around, paniers to keep batteries in.

>>532244371>Name even one way the janky kit /diy/'d E-Bike isn't the most freedom vehicle available in North AmericaEbikes are neat.I'd just give one quick word of caution. I've had my eBay account for 24+ years. The only government level product safety warning I've received via eBay has been related to a DIY ebike battery pack I bought. It cost something like £250 and was a pretty chunky no name Chinese one. Apparently it'd been involved in something like 11 separate house fire events in the UK that the fire brigade had attended and was related to lack of thermal protection.I watch the Will Prowse solar guy on YouTube sometimes and know one of the things he always checks after opening the import batteries is if at least one thermal cutout is present and if it actually works. They're missing entirely from some of them. Possibly because the staff assembling aren't informed as to why that component even needs to be present.Just letting you know in advance before blowing several hundred bucks on a kit or coming home to your house on fire. I definitely wouldn't leave these triggers plugged in on charge inside your garage or housez particularly without cracking the battery open first.

>>5322521092 hours late but a trek fs1 or 2. They can go up to 25 on throttle. 30 if you pedal assist. The throttle is solo, so it can literally carry you for miles. I've full throttled about 12 miles before and had 50% charge left. That's a sizeable battery.

>>532244371I have an e-bike that I ride once in a while for leisurely rides. I put a speaker on it to listen to music. It’s pretty fun, but as a normal mode of transport, it just doesn’t work for me. It can’t haul groceries. Can’t get me to work 30 miles away. Many other shortcomings.
