How many of you are stuck with a 2004 perspective when it comes to renewable energy?
>>532267070>the child slave mines required to make solar aren’t in OUR country so they don’t count broThe reason we don’t make energy in western countries is that we have laws ensuring that people are paid, and environmental laws are followed by offshoring it and putting your fate in another country without those restrictions you avoid that and can pretend to be green, equitable and fresh as a daisy
>>532267222did you think the neodymium, cobalt, chromium and cobalt used in regular turbines have a fair trade logo on them?
>>532267070You still believe these? Dig into them, the arbitrarily draw lines what to include. I recently wanted to know if it's more "climate friendly" (=elite friendly) to use an EV or a bicycle to go shopping. We know the official mantra, but if you really dig through all the contributions, it looks quite good for the EV. If you already got one, or are two people, it seems to be way better than the bicycle. The CO2 of land use plays a considerable role in this. So I wanted to know the differences between major forms of farming, and it turns out that there is no error-controlled scientific framework to estimate them, the original sources are often "we sent one undergrad student to the fields, and then we didn't look into 99% of effects that happen". But lots of laws and policies and nutritional advise in Europe are based on these assumptions. So I suspect it is very similar for these calculations. For example, did they include the loss of livable land from wind power stations? People have to pay higher prices for their homes, and therefore lose economic mobility.
>>532267447I do, tbf. but i would be interested in reading what you've read. I think solar is kinda fucked despite coming out cheapest. but wind and hydro particular off shore wind and tidal. The input is free, forever.
why cant we just download the energy and torrent it for free
>>532267447> CO2Yes, just ignore the absolutely ungodly amounts of synthetic rubber particles and heavy metals the EVs are dumping into the environment.
>>532267070Every oil importer should be aggressively switching to renewables and other replacements right nowand not because of global warming, the US attack on Iran changed everything
>>532267683>>532267827I will never get anti solar shills, you really buy into the kool aidSolar is cheap and anyone and their mothers can install a solar panel to use it, never seen a more hated energy source by the big monopolies
>>532267447renewables > nuclear > fossil fuelsNuclear could be based but it's over regulated and too expensive
>>532268004i aint anti solar, i just still give a little of a fuck about thirdie children with lungs full of silicone.
nuclear is imo the best. regulations are just high cuz people are still scared from chernobyl tho it was totaly an human error. also the storage for the waste is the only bit concerning thing. everything else is just propaganda from the oil companies that dont want cheap energy
>>532268005you have the most uranium in the fuckin world. whats goin on over there.
>>532267435Do you mine them in England? Or do you get it from a cheap country where people have no working rights and environmental damage is accepted?
>>532267683Keywords for digging: Deep soil carbon, N2O emissions dynamics, it seems most measurements are from the West anyways, not accounting for other soils, despite the variation. Farm supply chains are not really well understood, too. Making various climate effects comparable (like methane vs CO2 or clouding) is also a bigger problem it seems, many results disagree by hundreds of percent. And I found the effects of land use change to be guess work, like what happens to the soil over decades, if some farmer decides to stop farming pigs and make corn & onions beans to feed the mutts. I suspect that the effect is highly regional (like above, soil, climate, supply chain, plus lots of unknown dynamics), but the estimates are very rough.>>532267761>if I don't extract the surplus value, someone else will
>>532268004You can't build a grid on renewables. Grid power needs to be high-inertia, and reliable. That means nuclear or fossil fuels - there is no other option. Then there's the waste from renewables: from the pollution in mining/manufacturing to disposal it's very dirty. Then there's the fact renewables props up China: they dominate solar. So you're undermining your national security by buying into them.Solar is a nice-to-have, it's terrible for national energy security.
>>532268005Not for us tho, the most expensive part of nuclear is the fuel, but we have that in spades, we just sell it to other nuclear countries so they can control us
>>532268496>Then there's the waste from renewables: from the pollution in mining/manufacturing to disposal it's very dirty.Yeah but that doesn’t happen in our countries so we can pretend that it doesn’t happen at all and slap a green sticker on the end product
>>532267222you're telling me there are renewable energy devices that kill and maim brown shit skin children during the process of its manufacture? and we're NOT installing these devices on every publicly and privately owned building?
>>532267070>he fell for the renewables jewlol, hippie faggot.
>>532268592That shit runs into the sea and sky, which is universalWe just need nuclear and hydro, then we can tell the retarded yank seppo’s to fuck off and go back to their pedo island
>>532267827Rubber emissions can be solved easily, using a governmentally planned acceleration budget for every citizen. One can then apply for a microplastics license for an appropriate fee, with the sole government contractor (usually the husband of some minister) digitally managing each licensee with deeply integrated driving telemetry.
>>532268437that was my point fella. all generation methods currently require modern slavery. might as well restrict that damage to the where the REE mines are.
>>532268496Same principle, with dynamic pricing and individual electricity licensing and budgeting, the citizens will learn to use our precious resources more responsibly.
>>532268710lol XD
>>532268496>There is not other option.Pumped storage.
