Most who attended expected a party. Some were rejected because their dresses or skirts were too short. Those admitted were invited to wait in a large hall until the arrival of Gaddafi, who gave them a lesson on Libya and the role of women in Islam, and concluded with an exhortation to "convert to Islam", at which point Qurans were distributed along with a copy of a book containing sayings attributed to Gaddafi. Some claim they were offended by what they considered anti-Christian aspects of his lesson, including a claim that Jesus was not crucified but that "someone who looked like him" was put to death in his place. But for another, Rea Beko, it turned out to be a life-changing experience. "He convinced me," she said.
