So food production cannot keep up with population boom. Famines happen in period cycles. This is far worse in India because of the El Niño cycle. >>532291318The 1943 Bengal famine was caused by a cyclone. Japanese blockaded the sea between Burma and Bengal. In previous incidents food was sent from Burma to Bengal. The Japanese navy blocked it so no food. The British just did noting until very late. Churchill did send a letter to Roosevelt saying>I am very concerned about the food situation in Bengal And asked for help from the Americans to deal with it. He was a racist and looked down on Indians but he never wished any Indian to die.
