I lived in this country for a decade.They do not acknowledge mental illness as real. Physical abuse and cheating are normalized and expected. Social status and image are extremely important. I knew a women who didn't tell her coworkers that she was divorced. I worked with families and had many mothers venting their misery to me. I had many friends and no one ever said they were happy in life. Everyone follows trends, from how they dress to how they talk to what foods they like. They drink and work a lot. They schedule in social outings, won't ever be spontaneous with plans not go anywhere alone. Never eat alone, never have coffee alone, never walk alone. So of course they won't take this seriously. The fact the show exists at all amazes me, usually they won't talk about this kind of thing.
