>There's an area all the way up in Canada named British Colombia
How far did Columbus go? And did the British have to make sure their country was in the name?

Because Spain had one Columbia, so the Brits had to make sure they had one too.

Same reason theres a state called Maine.

They made it up to the lower part of Southeast Alaska and some of them claim they were colonized by Spaniards. But then you start getting into Haida indian territory and they didn't fuck around. Some boat shows up to take their resources and then 5000 of the fuckers come out of the woods and show up in canoes.

Purchase was made that way but there are distinct regions by now: East Coast, Great Lakes, Gulf Coast, West Coast

It refers to the Columbia District, which itself comes from the Columbia River, which was named after the boat that discovered it, the Columbia Rediviva.

This couldn't be more true. I was in Richmond bc like 15 years ago for work. First day was rough to find food. It was all Asian everywhere. Restaurants had menus in Chinese only. I had to order by pointing at a picture. The next day at work I asked for a few places to eat that are not asian. Ended up going to IKEA for lunch every day then to either Browns Social House or a nearby bowling alley for dinner.

Columbus didn't go there, but later Spanish explorers did.
