The US military industrial complex may have been something to be feared once, but its been allowed to rest on its laurels for too long without a reality check, and like any safe monopoly it becomes about extracting the maximum amount of money from a captive customer base (in this case, the taxpayers) instead of needing to innovate or compete or improve. Ukraine and Iran are showing us not just that we didn't make enough 5 million dollar missiles, but that making 5 million dollar missiles in the first place was NEVER a reasonable answer to the problem.

the military-industrial complex is just milking the USwhen they say their new plane costs X bajillion dollars because they employ Y people being pid Z per year, what is the US supposed to do except say yes to whatever they demand? it's not like there are competitors, they cant go to foreign companies or whatever. so they pay whatever boeing or whoever demands and the company in question can just keep raising prices, keep raising wages, keep corporate payouts, etc.and then the US can say "oh we spent soooo much on defense, so much on R&D" but really the money is not proportional to the material benefits at allone thing russia or china have an advantage, when they feel like their arms supplies is screwing them, their CEO gets disappeared
