I had a million dollars "in two weeks" during dot com, back when that was a lot of money for someone in their early 20s. It wasn't real either but this was why everyone on the internet was a libertarian at the time.

Boomers thought the metaverse was the pinnacle of VR multiplayer because a billionaire told them so and they respect money more than anything else. No need to look at something like VRChat with not even a single billionaire shilling it. Also they thought metaverse "property" was a solid investment because they do not understand that anyone can create unlimited VR real estate the same way they do not understand anyone can create unlimited cryptocurrency.
