Why did they stop using these Shilka babies? Seems incredible for drones.
>>532315063turret is too slow to be effective
>>532315063Where do the bullets fall when you're defending an urban area? What we need is a flak cannon which explodes at pre-programmed distance.
too good
>>532315063is that a flak tank?i dunno maybe tons of bits of metal chunks being spread everywhere isn't as good idea long term for like, crops n shit
>>532315155Turret rotates fasts as fuck.>>532315167It shoots explossive ammo.
>>532315167
>>532315498>fasts as fuckhave you seen how fast fpv drones can move? they could run circles around that thing, always staying behind the guns
>>532316149Lol if drones got that close already its over. Shilka effective range is beyond 2km.
>>532315063turkroaches have something similiar like this build on american cold war era apchttps://youtu.be/tLypNR2Kukk
>>532315063Because this is superior.
>>532315168This. It was OP and was nerfed to keep the battle balanced.
>>532316149It creates a 3-D kill box in the middle of the air that the target flies into. Nothing survives in that box. Though the weapon system expands all of its ammunition to do that.
>>532315063Ok so hear me out on the whole drones and tanks thing... Like if tanks were defeatable by just explosives being near them and going off, wouldn't they be useless? Like just some guy could run up and chuck some dynamite at it and it explodes? Nah. I'm pretty certain you need AP explosive tank and cannon rounds to explode a tank.
>>532316806yeah but who could spot a drone more than a kilometer away
>>532315063only 1 drone to needs to make it through to make it obsolete so the math still isnt in its favor.
How are drones that aren't using armor piercing cannon rounds blowing up tanks?
>>532315155Don't talk shit, if you don't know shit, dumbass
>>532317492German infantry on the eastern front used to run up to T-34s and wedge teller mines underneath the turrets. If you can get a shape charge on the hull or turret, not just dynamite, you can cause serious damage to the tank.
>>532317492The next stage in evolution would be micro drones carrying thermite shaped charges that could land on the tracks, the engine well, or even fly down the main cannon barrel of the tank and just melt holes through the metal and cripple the vehicle.
>>532315063i don't recall these ever having been used against any aircraft outside of exercises just mopping up chechens and afghans off rooftops, they are insanely inaccurate and lack any programmable ammunition in serviceable quantities and the last time they were used were in fucking 2003 or something. ukraine does use gepards which are the same thing but more modern and maintained pretty effectively vs larger drones
>>532317723
>>532317492What happens is the drone flies on to the engine deck (Which normally can't be hit by other tanks at all from the front) or tries to hit near the turret ring which is a weakspot. The turret ring normally doesn't matter against other tanks because they prioritize hitting center mass from range with their cannons but a drone can fly right up to it.
>>532317669melting copper jet stream
>>532315063ammo is not programmable (even explosive ammo types explode on impact or self destruct after preset time) so you need hundreds upon hundreds of rounds to hit anything - additionally 23mm rounds are quite heavy and logistically difficult due to it going trough whole ammo stored onboard in matter of 30 seconds... and then needs to be restocked manually...
>>532315063ZU-23-2 on the back of a truck with modern upgrades is the preferred platform these days. The platform is more modular, its very cheap, on the wheels it is a lot more mobile, low maintenance needed, easy to train on, etc...The shilka lacks in many of these departments. You need your strategic drone hunters to act quickly, move from spot A to spot Z in no-time, inbetween the shahed/geranium drone waves. Some shilkas are still put to use these days, but IIRC, they have been retired a long time ago now, and no spare parts were made for them, that is why most of them were replaced either by Gepards, on the Ukrainian side; Pantsir, Tunguska, etc. on the Russian side; or as said above, by the ZU-23-2, in tandem with the old S-60 AA cannons
>>532315063A good pilot can fly below the turret, it's simply not worth the cost
>>532317527>what is radar
>>532317245You are a million years behind India, Saar
>>532315753>safety featureAI always fucking wrong. It's so that you don't have to actually get a direct hit.
>>532315063I know the Germans have Gepards and Skyrangers with programmable ammo they sent to Ukraine and they work well. Russians have something equivalent too.Radar + programmable airburst ammo is where it's at.
>>532318351useless for fpv drones
>>53231506323mm would be terrible for drones. For small targets you want something like 35mm with far larger explosive warhead.
>>532318441It's both. They self destruct after reaching max distance. All AA rounds do that go watch videos of US 20mm CIWS firing at night.
>>532315063its not because of firepower its because small drones flying above trees are practicly invisible, not to mention those stationed at the ground flying when they spot a target usualy 50m away
