The Orion spacecraft is now within 83,000 miles of the Moon, with less than 1 and a half days remaining before its lunar flyby. Come and join us to discuss all things Artemis II. >Artemis II MissionArtemis II NASA's first crewed mission to the Moon in over 50 years. Launched on April 1, 2026, the four-person crew is currently on a ~10-day lunar flyby mission aboard the Orion spacecraft. This is the first time humans have traveled beyond low Earth orbit since Apollo 17 in 1972. The flight is testing systems for future lunar landings and Mars missions.>Live Coveragehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3kR2KK8TEshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RwfNBtepa4>Mission Trackershttps://www.nasa.gov/missions/artemis-ii/arow/https://artemis-ii-tracker.com/https://issinfo.net/artemis.html>The CrewReid Wiseman (Commander) - Navy test pilot and former ISS astronaut.https://www.nasa.gov/people/reid-wiseman/Victor Glover (Pilot) - Navy aviator, first black astronaut to live aboard the ISS, and Crew-1 pilot.https://www.nasa.gov/humans-in-space/astronauts/victor-j-glover/Christina Koch (Mission Specialist) - Record holder for longest single spaceflight by a woman (328 days).https://www.nasa.gov/people/christina-koch/Jeremy Hansen (Mission Specialist) - Canadian Space Agency astronaut, fighter pilot and physicist.https://www.asc-csa.gc.ca/eng/astronauts/canadian/active/bio-jeremy-hansen.asp>What is Orion?Orion is NASA's deep space exploration spacecraft designed to take humans to the Moon and beyond. >>532439550This is why they needed the test, now they know to heat the poopchute on the Mark 2. Honestly I want to see a SpaceX manned moon mission because the Starship would be way roomier and more interesting to see in action
>>532439619wasn't fake. absolutely no reason why it would need to be faked since going to the moon isn't impossible.
>>532439773SpaceX is working with NASA on Artemis. They'll be travelling in the same cuckpod and meeting with Starship which will take them down to the surface. Then travelling in the cuckpod back to Earth.
>>532439619I will never understand "moon landing is fake". There is irrefutable evidence of the apollo 15 landing site existing in the form of the retroreflectors, and simply sticking 2 dickheads in the lander is infinitely easier than the bullshit it would take to fake it and land an unmanned lander.

>>532442445i wonder if its working a bit like the water cooling systems on the EVA suits did to expel heat. they flowed out a small amount of heated water onto a kind of metal grid, where it froze and then sublimated away so it didn't get completely blocked with the ice. if the outlet wasn't working properly so that the ice can clear fast enough, it could block like this.

>>532440407>NASA is proposing SpaceX Starship now handles translunar injection (TLI) propulsion and the full landing role, while SLS/Orion is limited to LEO only. The problem is that Starship needs more delta-v to get back to Earth orbit from the lunar surface. >>532439619A generation of top men fresh out of WW2 then jet aviation in the Korean war were given decades to do nothing but get to the moon. They succeeded but over many many iterative missions gradually developing not just the tech but the know how and expertise to get there. The tech is better now but because it’s been 50 years since anyone’s done a moon mission the know how, will, expertise, and tested/trusted equipment died with them. Therefore, Artemis has to take a couple years to get rolling as a new generation has to retread in the original NASA’s footsteps, with a lot of side objectives besides just the moon landing like relatively cheap reusable rockets. All their equipment is brand new and untested, so overall their pace is literally just 1. Test the rocket 2. Test the rocket and systems by flying to the moon and back 3. Test the lander 4. Land; getting men on the surface of the moon by Artemis 4 as opposed to Apollo’s 11 (plus Gemini and Mercury missions).

Falcon rockets also failed a lot, especially the landing boosters, and that data is what made them now reliable.Artemis is over-complicated with all the different vehicles and docking maneuvers because they're stuck with the Senate Launch System, but hopefully they streamline it when Starship is ready and they can just use the whole integrated thing which would be a lot of cheaper and reliable.
