Fear of ruin/destruction manifested into a story, and spread to everybody so at least you're not the only one drawing the short stick.2. A need for finality. To believe that everything ends some day because they can't wrap their heads around too long of a period of time, or worse, infinity.3. Fear of dying alone. Much easier to think that if everybody dies, then at least you're not the only one going away, and nobody's left to suffer.4. Confirmation of whatever afterlife their religions beliefs advertise. When you can't figure out by yourself that there is no possible end to your consciousness, or when you can but you're too scared of the possibilities, then the idea of heaven, or even hell being at least certain gives you some comfort.Sadly though, the only thing that will actually come of these end times prophecies is a bunch of lunatics trying to enact them, and endangering us, and the entire world in the process. There will be no biblical end times. But there sure as shit is the possibility of physical extinction at the hands of these imbeciles trying fruitlessly to cause it, thinking that their God will come and save them, as if they're somehow qualified to know Their will because they read a book on the topic.
