> === THE FINAL FEW HOURS === <
The Orion spacecraft is now within 12,000 miles of the moon. 5 hours until the closest approach.

>Artemis II Mission
Artemis II NASA's first crewed mission to the Moon in over 50 years. Launched on April 1, 2026, the four-person crew is currently on a ~10-day lunar flyby mission aboard the Orion spacecraft. This is the first time humans have traveled beyond low Earth orbit since Apollo 17 in 1972. The flight is testing systems for future lunar landings.

The Artemis II crew identified two features on the Moon that do not yet have a name.
They suggested one be named "Integrity Crater" after their name for the Orion capsule, and "Carroll Crater" for the Commander's wife who died of cancer in 2020
He was clearly very emotional when he made the suggestion

Odds are that the stupid iran war will distract from Artemis so it's the other way around, NASA's budget is one of the lowest it's ever been and part of the restructuring was cutting out pretty much everything that isn't Artemis. SLS has an underpowered upper stage, so they have to split the trans-lunar injection burn into two parts. The upper stage does the first half, then they coast for an orbit, and then Orion's service module does another burn to take them the rest of the way. The extra orbit they have to do adds an extra day to the mission length.

Artemis added about one day to test out Orion in high Earth orbit before they burned into their free return trajectory around the Moon, so there's that
Also Artemis is not doing a boost to get back to Earth and is just "falling" back down so they have more time to linger around the Moon

lots of testing involved. artemis 2 stayed in orbit around earth for quite some time. apollo went up into earths orbit and straight out of it towards the moon. also, the apollo missions did a Lunar Orbit Insertion, as in, burnt fuel to get into a suitable orbit. meanwhile, artemis 2 just floats around the moon basically, in what is called a "free-return flyby".

The Personal Computing Device (PCD) used by the Artemis II crew is a Microsoft Surface Pro tablet, which serves as the primary tool for internet access, timeline tracking, and email management during the 10-day lunar flyby.

During the mission, Commander Reid Wiseman reported critical software issues with the PCD, specifically noting that two instances of Microsoft Outlook were running, and neither was functioning, prompting a remote troubleshooting session with Mission Control. In addition to the software glitch, astronaut Christina Koch reported that her PCD went dark and became unresponsive just before translunar injection, with no immediate success in reviving the device

theyre not 'begging' anything they just want to coordinate things if theyre not in an emergency. if they just started turning the orion without approval ground control would think they had an RCS malfunction or something. but you're right

they have a fancy comm laser on a gimbal mount if they really wanted they could have mounted those nikon cameras on gimbal mounts on the outside and taken precise automated photos. they mostly just give them busywork as theyre glorified lab rats for when they return and nasa starts imaging and taking biopsies of them to see the impact of passing through the radiation belts.

Mostly it's because they've been successfully using it on the ISS for 8+ years
The astronauts have used it, they know it works, can stand up to radiation, etc.
Government programs are very reluctant to adopt new technologies and software because they require a lot of validation before they will sign off on it

>kept doing that until all the supplies necessary (in triplicate), were there, and then follow them up with actual astronauts who were trained to build base camps and stuff?
there's no point in doing this unless there's a definite mission that is going to use the supplies and then its better to send the supplies with the crew. orbital launch is too expensive and you're better off using the launches/money on other things.

something like starship can change the economic balance and make supply dumps on the moon cheap. even with falcon 9 its fairly economic if they make bigger versions of the blue ghost lander

if the moon was a projection on the dome then it would still distort in perspective depending on where you're looking at it from, it would still shrink in size as the projection moves across the dome. it does neither of these things.

It is the formula they started with and they have to stick with it or else they would be called out for it. Funnily I brought up this exact argument to some fag "debunker" on youtube and his response was that it was difficult for women to be hygienic on the space station. The level of complete and utter retardation shows that these people are really sticking with it to the bitter end.

The insanity of this level of criminality needs to be removed from society and even the low-level shill who sell this bullshit on internet forums ought to be put in work camps. Of course they are afraid of the masses figuring it out, of course they use a lot of resources aimed at keeping the masses docile and accepting of their bullshit, of course they try to flip the script and pretend that all the resistance they are experiencing is some "paid shill group effort" and not organic.

Yes... they're training. Parabolic flights don't just do zero-g, they can emulate lunar gravity, which would be pretty helpful to give the astronauts an idea of how the suits behave in that kind of gravity.
